# Dressing in layers

My neck was itchy as I was driving to work, and it required a bit of maneuvering to scratch it – because the spot was under at least seven layers of material:
jersey turtleneck (folded over): 2 layers
sweater turtleneck (folded over): 2 layers
coat collar: 1 layer
scarf wrapped around my neck two or three times: 2 layers
Trust everyone is dealing with the cold weather equally appropriately.

I almost pissed myself one winter day a couple years ago - it was my first time wearing my new farmer john long underwear, and I was alarmingly unfamiliar with the quickest way to unlimber my meat.

My parka caused a tragic, failed romance.
In the deep freeze, I wear a huge windproof down parka. It turns me into an igloo with boots sticking out at the bottom, so I scuttle along quite comfortably even when Celsius meets Fahrenheit.
A couple of years ago, a fellow came out behind the counter of a Chinese Food Restaurant and wrapped himself around me in a bear hug.
While this was going on, I thought, “Nifty, I now have a boyfriend.” Then I thought, “Wait a minute, I’m a straight guy. I don’t want a boyfriend.”
After a short time, he looked up, exclaimed “Your parka is warm!”, and nestled back into me.
That’s when I realized that he didn’t want me for myself – he only wanted me for my parka.
I didn’t quite know what to make of that – not being wanted by someone I didn’t want.
Fortunately, the chicken fried rice and sweet and sour fried wanton order was up, so the tragic one minute romance ended, and I went back out into the blizzard with my dinner in a bag.

Today my outfit involves:
-bra/panties
-long johns
-blue jeans
-thermal undershirt
-t-shirt on top of undershirt
-sweater on top of t-shirt
-wooly socks
-winter boots
When I go outside, I’ll add a scarf, a winter coat (does a removable fleece lining count as another layer?), mittens, and a very classy bandana that gets tied around my ears to keep them from getting too cold.
I loves me some layers!

As I was signing out at work on Tuesday, the security guy noticed I had on THREE scarves tied around my head. He said with the undermost one being white, I looked like a nun.
At this point though I don’t care-we’re right next to the freaking Ohio. That wind was COLD.
I am so not looking forward to the bus trip tomorrow.

mmmmm, I love me some layers!
On a cold winter day if I’m going to dance class after school I have:
underwear
tights
two leotards (for padding. Just one tends to hang off me)
long-sleeved shirt
a pair of stretchy jazz pants
long-sleeved uniform shirt for school
uniform pants
thick hoodie
two pairs of socks
legwarmers
and any time I go outside-
an extra pair of fleece pants over my uniform pants
another hoodie
a lovely giant incredibly dorky purple coat
a knit hat
a scarf my mommy made me
gloves
mittens (over the gloves)
It takes me FOREVER to go to the bathroom.

How cold is it there??
The layers I wore today: long wool winter coat, blazer, long sleeved v-neck shirt, and long skirt. I wore a scarf around my neck, but no gloves.
It was about minus 27 celsius this morning here.

That’ll teach me to post while watching Survivor. **twickster** , I didn’t intend that to sound snarky, and it occurred to me after that it might.
As you might guess, as long it’s not miserably cold, I like the winter. With the pending climate change, I’d better enjoy it while I still can.

It has been unusually cold here this week – about 10 degrees F this morning – after a global-warmingly mild winter so far.
And me, I’m a twickster of the reptilian persuasion – I thought it was pretty freakin’ cold.

Why aren’t you wearing gloves at this temperature? The daughter of one of my coworkers had severe damage to her hands because she got locked out and wasn’t wearing gloves or mitts.

It is currently 17° but according to the weather channel, it feels like 11°. I just came in (just got home from work).
I was wearing:
Normal bra, panties and socks
sneakers
jeans
long sleeved t-shirt
gloves
windbreaker with a light fleece lining
My hands were a bit uncomfortable until I remembered to put on the gloves. But other than that, I was totally comfortable.
But then, I prefer the cold - which is one of the reasons I haven’t moved out of MA. I don’t even own a heavy winter coat, and haven’t for at least 2 years.

Boots, heavy jacket, hoodie over a long-sleeved shirt, mittens, the hat that people say I look cute in but I can’t get used to wearing, and I still come home feeling like I’d bitten straight into a frozen popsicle. All over.
-17 with the windchill, by the way. Y’all are _wusses_ compared to us Canucks.

Layers are the only way to go. At my second job, I’m in and out all day long. I have on a tank top, a short sleeve t-shirt, a long sleeve t-shirt, my uniform shirt and my company jacket. The jacket is basically just a windbreaker with a flannel lining, so I need layers to keep warm.
I have heavy work boots that are insulated, and heavy socks, so my feet stay warm.
Gloves are a must.
It’s going to be warmer today - all the way up to 30F !

I’m wearing underpants, a pair of flip flops, and a pair of glasses. I might need to put on a nightie, though, as I’m feeling a bit chilled. My husband and daughter turn the heat up too much for me in the winter (I prefer it to be no higher than 68 degrees F.), and so I generally only wear that particular outfit.
