Beer - my favorites are Tremont Ale, Harpoon IPA, Tremont Winter Ale (in the cold weather), Pete’s ESP (in the hot weather)
plus assorted other non-local brews like Bass Ale, Caffrey’s, several Saranac varieties, Yuengling, etc.

The good things I like to think my drink says about me: I’m down-to-earth, sociable, take less than 5 minutes in the bathroom at the pub, I’m low-maintenance and prefer to be treated as one-of-the-guys.

The possibly bad things it says about me: I’m New England beer snob, I’m over-educated and spend too much time and money in brew pubs.

An amusing thing I think it says about me: I’m sure some of the fuzzy navel drinkers I run into assume I’m a lesbian.

In my own defense, I’ve been known to enjoy a Budweiser on occasion, especially at a cook-out, though I prefer more flavorful brews.

Before dinner or a night out with the girls: Captain Morgan and Coke with a lime

With dinner or appetizers:
Cabarnet or Merlot OR Chardonnay, depending on what I’m eating

After dinner:
Godiva or Tia Maria with coffee

What does this say about me? That after a night out, I usually have a headache in the morning.

The CEO’s from Budweiser, Coors, Miller, and Heinken were at beer convention and decided to go to lunch together. The Bud CEO ordered a budweiser, the Coors CEO ordered a Coors, and the Miller CEO ordered a Miller. When the waitress turned to the Heineken CEO, he promptly ordered a Pepsi. The other CEOs looked at him oddly, to which he replied, “Well, if you guys aren’t drinking, I guess I won’t either.”

In the summer when it’s hot, milk or Mr. Pibb’s the drink for me.

In the winter when it’s not, I just love a nice Irish Mocha Cappuccino.

As for the 'tweener seasons that are neither hot nor cold, give me a nice cream soda or a root beer.

Yes, you guessed it. I’m one of the few college students in this grand country who don’t drink a drop of anything fermented!

I usually go for beer. My favorites are Bass Ale, Bellhaven Scottish Ale, Guinness, Sam Adams Scotch Ale.

When having wine I like reds. Merlot, Zinfandel, Pino Noir.

Mixed drinks- Gin and Tonic

I also like the occasional 12 year old Wild Turkey.

I have no idea what it says about me except maybe I drink too much.

The one drink I can’t help make snap judgements about people when I see them with it is Zima. I find it repulsive. An abomination. I usually think people who drink it are dweebs.

At the receptions we frequently hold here, I happily snarf white wine. If whoever’s paying for said reception has sprung for a full bar, it’s rum & Coke, or JD & Coke

When we are released from our workday chains and head on down to the pub, I _love_ hard cider-- either Cider Jack or Woodpecker. It’s a sad day when our watering hold/greasy food emporium of choice is out of cider.

My thread went horribly awry. I’m sure I didn’t make the OP very clear at all.
What I was going for really was…what does what “you” drink say about “you”? Not literally, whaddaya drinkin’ guys?
See, the thing is, I usually drink Bud from the bottle. But, we’re going out to dinner with some muckety-mucks on Friday and I’m trying to think of something to order that doesn’t make me look quite so much like a tomboy. Cosmopolitan? Red wine? Vodka tonic?(yeah, I’m a bit of a planner and really have nothing better to think about right now)

So, what do drinks say about the people who drink them? Bud = down to earth, simple tastes, possibly a little more on the rural side than others? Any takers on this amendment of the OP?

This made me laugh. On occasion I go to a bar a few blocks from mi casa called Star Bar. It’s a very yuppified jazz club. Fantastic music, but everyone’s a little too shiny for me. If I had ordered a PBR, I think a few people would have passed out.

## To tie it back, I drink scotch rocks when I’m mellow, and whiskey rocks or beer when I want to get a little loopy. I think that means that I just started appreciating the brown spirits, and I’m a bit like a kid with a new toy.

The drink itself is not what the image is about. It’s more about your ability to appreciate it. You need to find a drink that makes _you_ feel the way you want people to see you.

As for me, I’ve recently developed quite the taste for Wild Turkey on the rocks. I think that projects the image that I’m an experienced drinker (it’s 101 proof) and can handle the harshness, but also enjoy the subtleties of a fine bourbon. Some day I’ll move up the socioeconomic ladder and be able to try some of those single malts Bricker mentioned. Damn college lifestyle.

For the not looking like a tomboy question, I think a mudslide or white russian is an excellent, gender neutral drink. I also think that a nice beer (out of a pilsner glass) is something a woman can drink and still appear very feminine, if that’s more to your liking.

When ordering a cocktail: gin and tonic

With dinner: red wine (I’m still learning about the different varieties, but usually a merlot is good). I used to only drink white, but now I actually prefer red, except for the occasional Chardonnay.

With dessert, or when enjoying quality time with my SO: sparkling wine (we don’t usually cough up for real Champagne).

I don’t really drink much, but I find that when I go out with a group of women, I’m in the vast minority if I order a liquor drink.

During the day, I consume Pepsi fairly constantly. I used to prefer Coke, but I’ve attended school for six years at an institution with only Pepsi machines, so I have been converted.

Whats with all these college students who don’t drink??

I like a good Cabernet Sauvignon (for with food). Mackiesons Triple Stout(better than Guinness) for refreshment, Jack Daniels (neat) for when I’m drinking, and Pernod for when I want an aperatif.

What does this say about me?
Well, it says I’m living beyond my means in many cases, and that I’m willing to skimp on other things in order to enjoy good alcohol. (no JD cracks please)

Depends on the situation, but:

Beer: Hefe-Weissbier or Guiness. Pilsner on hot days.

Red wine: Spanish/Portuguese red wine gives better value, but Margaux (NOT Chateau Margaux, do I look like a millionaire?) when I want to spend the money.

Bubbly: Cremant d’Alsace is nice…

Liquor: Nothing wrong with neither whisky nor brandy, but lately I’ve taken a liking to Calvados - apple brandy form Normandy. The cheap varieties are better used as paint removers, but the good ones - mmmmmh.

Cocktails: Go away! GT, Bloody Mary & Dry Martini are OK in my book - most other cocktails seem to be a damn waste of perfectly good alcohol. “Anyone who serves cocktails should be put behind bars”.

And what does that say about me ? Dunno.
