Drinking beer in the pool or hot tub - Declasse? Rude? Acceptable?

Hot tubs are for quiet reflection or sex. Booze is acceptable before/during both.

Pools are for quiet floating and relaxing and/or sex, if the kids aren’t around.

Adding kids just makes it a normal pool, but they can’t have beer.

Beers are allowed, but not to be added to the water. You can keep them in your floating cooler, that looks like a fishing bobber!

No, there was white tape over it. Another rule was removed as well. I’m guessing the hotel staff did it. I have no idea why.

But they were breaking their own rules by serving breakfast there.

But the no alcohol sign remained?

Second line is absolutely not true.

I wouldn’t be surprised if many if not most commercial establishments prohibited alcohol in hot tubs to avoid risk of liability.

Even hot tub manufacturers often include a warning against alchol use while using their products.

Yes. That was a different sign.

It’s been true of every one that I’ve used except maybe one. I don’t remember.

Well, then.

I’ve seen a lot of warnings but only a few times have I seen alcohol strictly prohibited.

The one place where I can’t remember is a little more casual. It was a little B&B, not a hotel chain. They weren’t big into signs.

That’s crazy. Where do you keep your wallet?

Doesn’t the chlorine take care of that?

Anyway, I’ve drank beside a pool, in a pool, and while in a hot tub where it was allowed. Drinking in a pool isn’t quite the same and the thought of dumping beer into a pool sounds unsavory to me.

I don’t care how it’s lined, it is still Keystone beer.

“No Alcohol” signs at Hot Tubs are generally about liability. Nothing really to do with accepted behavior or “couthness”.

Only slightly related but I gotta share this story. End up in the boonies at the local redneck swimming hole, chock full of drunk off their asses rednecks. But at least they were the friendly drunks. As we are leaving I notice a full beer can floating downstream so I grab it. I have a good idea which bass boat it came from. I hold it up and yell at the guy “Is this your beer?”. He replies back “yes! throw it to me!”. “I don’t think thats a good idea let me bring it over”. “No, just throw it!”. “Okay…”. I miss his outstretched arms and perfectly hit the already recently opened full beer sitting on the bow of the boat knocking it into the water

I can’t understand why you’d have an issue with it. I love sitting in my hot tub at night with a beer or a glass of wine. I do so often when I use hotel or spa hot tubs. Many of them have nearby bars, where they will put your drink in an appropriate container.

The obnoxious behavior and the dumping of beer in the hot tub or pool should get people thrown out. I agree 100% with this. But relaxing and having a drink. What’s wrong with that?

Most of the hotel/spa hot tubs I’ve been to prohibit glass, but if you put your beverage in a plastic cup it’s fine. I’m trying hard to remember one that specifically prohibited alcoholic beverages. I’m sure they exist, but it sure as heck isn’t “all” of them.
