# Drinks that make you thirsty

I like ginger ale, but unlike other sodas or beverages I drink, it leaves me thirstier when I’m finished. I can only put two away before having to switch to water or another type of soda. Is this the “dry” in Canada Dry? Does a dry martini have the same effect? Am I just weird?

I vote for weird.
Or diabetic, if your ginger ale is sweetened with sugar while your other beverages are calore-free.
Otherwise, it usually takes a hypertonic beverage like seawater to make someone more dehydrated.

You’re not weird (neither is **Ms Pumpkin** )
With gingerale, it’s the ginger that’s making you thirsty - with the processed lemonade, it’s possibly the artificial lemon flavoring
V-8 makes me thirsty - but that’s probably the salt content doing that.

No citrus juice I’ve ever had actually quenches my thirst. It just coats my throat with something and makes me thirstier.
That’s not to say I don’t drink lemonade. I like the taste. I just don’t drink it to quench thirst.

No, “dry” ginger ale means it is less sweet. Originally, ginger ale was brewed in the “golden” style; darker, sweeter with a more intense flavor. Vernor’s is an example of golden ginger ale. “Dry” ginger ale is lighter in flavor, paler in color, and less sweet. Schweppes and Canada Dry are examples of dry ginger ale.

Pomegrante juice does it to me. It gives me a distinct dry feeling in my mouth. It tastes great, but it’s far from refreshing.

It seems like every time I have a beer, I tend to want “just one more”. No matter if I’ve had ten or twelve, it always seems that I’m just as thirsty as when I started, and I’m sure the next one will do the trick.

Gatorade makes me thirsty. I try to drink it as an alternative to soda, but I drink too much of it.

The hard stuff. It dehydrates your tissues, you know. I’ve awakened in the wee hours after sleeping off a bender and been all but unable to pry my contact lenses off my shrunken eyeballs.
This may or may not explain why I misread the header as: **Drinks that make you _thirty._** Trust me, there are no such drinks. If there were, I’d be a whole new man.
