Any cocktails, mocktails, or soft drinks you’ve never had, but have wanted to try? I’ve always wanted to try an Aqua Velva, but I never remember when I’m at a bar. Same with a Harvey Wallbanger. I mostly just want to order it. ---

I’ve had neither a “Sloe Gin Fizz” nor a “Bloody Mary,” but I’ve often thought of trying them. I gave up my “serious” drinking in the 1980s after enjoying dry martinis much too often, became a wino and never looked back. ---

At about $50,000 a bottle, a single pour of Old Rip Van Winkle 25 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon, neat. A typical 750 ml bottle has 16 pours, that makes that one drink cost about $3,125. ---

The Bloody Mary is much hotter now. It went from a dash of Tabasco in the 80s to using a spicy mix now and often a few extra dashes of Tabasco. My stomach doesn’t allow me to drink them any more. ---

Never tried a Negroni before. Seems like one of those ‘classy’ drinks the hoi polloi enjoy. It’s easy to make, having only 3 ingredients in a 1:1:1 ratio and an orange peel garnish. I do enjoy a good negroni. Excellent pre-dinner drink. Good way to wake up the palate. My choice for the thread: I would like a glass of 1982 Château Pétrus Pomerol. Or a bottle. Or a case. ---

I was given a Manhattan many years ago, and thought it was quite good. I haven’t had one since because I seldom go to bars. I usually drink Rusty Nails, Old Fashioneds, and Mint Juleps that I mix myself at home. One cocktail I’d like to try is a Negroni. Yesterday, I learned about the _Negroni sbagliato_ invented at a tavern in Florence. They both sound interesting. ---

As a New Englander I tried Moxie as a child and hated it. I can’t really remember the flavor though to describe it. My father would drink it by the 2 liter. ---

An MJ is delicious and very refreshing on a hot, muggy summer’s day. It should be so cold that the glass it’s in is sweating. From what I understand, an MJ is traditionally served in a silver mug. You can add Mojitos to the list of cocktails I make at home. They’re similar to MJs, but made with soda water and white rum instead of spring water and Kentucky bourbon. ---

The Negroni has seen a renaissance in the past few years, lots of brunchy places have it. But Campari lasts forever, though the sugar content can crust up the cap. Vermouth doesn’t last long but it’s also dirt cheap at every grocery store. Considering this semi-Chicago-based website, I’ve never tried Jeppson’s Malört but would like to because I like to challenge myself. I don’t like many bitter things, Campari straight is not fun. But some are quite pleasing like Aperol and Becherovka. ---
