In my house, which I own, the dripping was bugging my wife, and I didn’t want to leave a towel in the shower, so I finally got around to fixing it. It’s mostly really easy and only a few minutes work (after you dig your tools out)
Stripped threads dissassembling it, couldn’t get matching replacement parts, had to replace the whole thing, had the water off for a couple of hours while I skiipped work after it came apart (stripped threads), had to buy a temporary part before I got a better part, (so I had to fix it three times), but it’s fixed now.
Agree with the advice. Not necessarily something I would do in a rental property.
