I thought so, too. Except that there was something about her that looked like a 25 year old botoxed and pretending to be 17.

Anyone else notice that the detective that is questioning Alex in one of the first scenes was the guy who played Jubal Early in the Firefly ep “Objects in Space”?

Kind of neat that they opened Drive with two characters from Firefly.

I was watching this with a lot of anticipation- on a professional level. Back in the fall, a writing partner and I had a pilot script very briefly considered by a Fox production wing. Its plot was just similar enough to raise our eyebrows when we heard about this show.

20 minutes into the pilot for “Drive” I called my partner and said “Yeaaaah… I don’t think they stole it… because I think this might be better.”

I’m not sure about that. I paid enough attention to the preview to catch this:Battered mom gets a call telling her that “the house is being watched” then tells her partner that her baby’s in danger.

As far as I can tell, abusive hubby got her pregnant. When she gave birth, she was confronted about her bruises by the social worker, who, as it turns out, is one of “them.” She was given the cell phone as a way of contacting the social worker, who is taking care of the baby. Abusive hubby apparently cares enough to wonder why she’s not in Minnesota, but not enough to see his own son being born.

And apparently every single person in the universe not actually in the race is one of “them.” Abusive hubby and newborn son are probably in on it.

In vitro indoctrination?

Maybe the husband doesn’t actually know the kid exists. All sorts of possibilities, really.
