# Drivers license stolen - should I be worried?

I know if I lose my SS card, somebody could steal my identity, but are there any worries for a missing drivers license? I just moved, so the address is is not current. That was about the only thing I could think of.

In Virginia (at least when I got my license [in 1986] after living in Colorado), all I had to do to get a VA license is take an eye test and turn over my out-of-state license. Someone finding a valid out-of-state license could usurp your identity. (You’d think that the usurper would have to look minimally like you, but who knows what might happen at the DMV.)

If I were to lose my out-of-state license just after moving, I’d call my old state and have it canceled. Hopefully, if someone were to try to get a reissue like above, there’d be interstate computer checks that would either stop the transaction, or at least raise some flags.
