Driving from Germany to London

Oh, I see. I always read it as St. Pancreas. It’s funny (as in interesting) how the brain replaces an unknown word with a similar looking, known-word when reading a foreign language, isn’t it?
I remember reading H.G. Wells Time Machine in school - 10th or 11th grade - and I kept reading “leathers” instead of “levers” when he wanted to travel, because I didn’t know what levers were (and I think they weren’t explained in the added vocabulary list), but I knew what leather was, so I kept picturing some kind of leather straps or similar that the traveller pulled.

I regularly drive from the SE of England to Germany, Austria and Italy for holidays.
In general, apart from some upgrading on the German autobahns, it is an absolute breeze.
You will fly through northern France, if you choose the toll roads it normally takes us about 6 hours to get to Calais from the German border at Baden-Baden.

We always take the Eurotunnel (as we can use Tesco vouchers for the crossings) They are normally priced at about £60-70 each way depending on time/day/season of travel.

The big benefit of tunnel over ferry is that it is less bothered by inclement weather, though there is always something romantic about approaching the white cliffs of Dover by boat.

Getting on and off is easy enough and when you get off at Folkestone you are only about an hour and a half from London.

I’m sure that Bear_Nenno has gotten to the UK by now…two years later.

Eh? this thread came up right near the top of the forum so I never checked the date.

How did that happen?

Unless he got stuck in really bad traffic jams.

Or his money ran out because of the high gas prices.

But if he has made it safely, he could give his opinion and evaluation now.
