Yes. The chances you’ll get held up are low, but real. In addition to a big snowstorm, they will also close the highways for a ground blizzard, when the wind is blowing the fallen snow so hard that you can’t see two feet in front of you, but there is clear blue sky above.
Listen to local radio stations if the weather appears worrisome, especially the type that give ag prices throughout the day. They’re pretty quick about announcing closures, and very good with weather updates. If you hear of a closure, go ahead and get a room in the next town. The closer you get to the closure, the more likely you’ll get stranded in your car with nothing available.
It’s most likely going to be just an overnight stall; it’s unlikely that you’ll be snowed in for three days.
