Even worse, imagine what Trump by flapping his lips is going to cause!

Which hurricanes are a liberal plot, promoted by the lying liberal media to get money for slacker scientists, and which hurricanes are sent directly by God as a punishment to the heathen gay liberals?

SO confused now.

Say there was some sort of liberal cabal of scientists who desperately needed the public to believe in climate change and would employ any draconian plot to serve their purposes, including lying about the threat of hurricanes. What’s in it for them? More grant money?

Liberal Cabal Scientist #1: Hey, there’s a hurricane heading towards Florida.
Liberal Cabal Scientist #2: Well don’t just stand there, man! Inflate its speed and destructive power so the sheep will get scared into pressuring the government for more funding. We’ve got our New World Order to maintain after all.

> Well, it is complicated, most of the media do get it wrong; scientists are not saying that climate change causes an specific hurricane. Only that the odds are changing for how often they pop up. And currently there is the curve ball that at this stage of the warming hurricanes could come less often\*\* but be more intense than before\*\*.

Well, [it didn’t take long](http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/07/opinions/sutter-hurricane-matthew-climate-change/index.html) for Hurricane Matthew to be tied to climate change. Apparently the reporter didn’t bother to ascertain that this was the first major hurricane to strike the U.S. _since 2005_.

As noted in [this article](http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/15/opinion/where-are-the-hurricanes.html?_r=0) and taking into account [recently-published research](http://www.climatecentral.org/news/study-projects-more-frequent-and-stronger-hurricanes-worldwide-16204), there’s a _lot_ of uncertainty over whether or not there will be more (and more severe) hurricanes due to climate change. The lack of evidence supporting the thesis up till now should (but often does not) lead to great caution before attributing any specific weather event or even short-term trends to man-made effects on climate.

Even if the more-and-bigger-hurricane hypothesis doesn’t pan out, it doesn’t invalidate climate change science as a whole or eliminate the need to make thoughtful decisions to cut back emissions. Meantime, excessive and unsupportable hype (even if one thinks it’s for our own good) gives aid and comfort to the conspiracy theorists and “science was wrong before!” idiots.

[The article on CNN](http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/07/politics/donald-trump-women-vulgar/index.html) has some absolutely priceless reactions from unnamed Republicans within the campaign:

> “This should have never happened. I wish it had never happened. I think I know that men talk this way sometimes, but it’s nothing I would ever want to hear or condone or approve of,” the adviser said. “My reaction is – it’s appalling. It’s just flat out appalling.”
>
> The adviser also said Trump’s apology does not go far enough.

> [@](#):
>
> Asked about the reaction at a campaign field office, a Trump field staffer told CNN there were “gasps. Collective gasps. We’re trying to get our heads around it right now, but there’s no way to spin this. There just isn’t.”

Not to worry. I’m sure Anderson Cooper of CNN would not think to bring this up during Sunday’s debate.

Uh, the articles you linked actually says the same I did say early. The increase in intensity is not coming from imagination but has been measured.

The real idiots are indeed the ones that will twist that into saying the opposite or to exaggerate what scientists are actually reporting.

Hundreds have been killed by this storm, and Florida was lucky it just skirted up the coast and didn’t make a direct hit. Make no mistake this was and still is a dangerous weather event.

Im sick of people ripping into weather forecasters for “ginning up” forecasts, no matter what the supposed motivation. Better safe than sorry, I always say.

Starting to hear more about this when schools close ahead of time of a predicted snow event. People only complain when it doesn’t materialize. Whats the big deal? So your kids were home and safe, as a precaution. If there was 12" of snow, you would have been grateful they were home and safe.

No one bitched about the Sandy or Katrina forecasts.

[Sandy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Sandy) didn’t count?

> [@](#):
>
> A total of 24 U.S. states were in some way affected by Sandy. The hurricane caused tens of billions of dollars in damage in the United States, destroyed thousands of homes, left millions without electric service,[193] and caused 71 direct deaths in nine states, including 49 in New York, 10 in New Jersey, 3 in Connecticut, 2 each in Pennsylvania and Maryland, and 1 each in New Hampshire, Virginia and West Virginia.[2] There were also 2 direct deaths from Sandy in U.S. coastal waters in the Atlantic Ocean, about 90 miles (150 km) off the North Carolina coast, which are not counted in the U.S. total. In addition, the storm resulted in 87 indirect deaths.[1] In all, a total of 160 people were killed due to the storm, making Sandy the deadliest hurricane to hit the United States mainland since Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the deadliest to hit the U.S. East Coast since Hurricane Agnes in 1972.

Technically, this is only true if by “major” you mean Category 3 and above. For obvious reasons, “major” could easily refer to Sandy or some of these other storms, since wind strength is not the only measurement by which something can be described as “major.”

Hurricanes Humberto, Dolly, Gustav, Ike, Irene, Isaac, Sandy, Arthur, and Hermine all struck the continental U.S. between 2006 and 2016 (not counting the Hawaii storms for this purpose) - none of them were Category 3 or above when they made landfall.
