Drug company memos warn employees to stay clear of Moore (observation, not pitting)

Don’t like the drug companies? boycott them. Good luck treating Kaposi’s Sarcoma with a butter pat and cobweb.

Socialized medicine is great for ensuring that a larger segment of the population receives medical treatment. However, it ain’t as good for medical R&D.

I liked you a lot better before you started channeling Ed Anger, DtC.

They are, in essence, “drug dealers”. No different than the dude selling illicit drugs. Just most times, the illicit ones are far safer.

And if they had nothing to hide, then how can you get the EXACT same thing in Canada for sometimes up to 80% less? Why don’t you just go ahead and bend over, just so you’re already in position.

No, they’re not ripping us off. Not. at. all. I think it’s perfectly okay to pay for their all-expense paid 2-week golfing vacations or their million dollar black-tie events.

Couldja get someone to write down the recipe for Zomig first? I may not be able to afford it, but without it, I’m pretty much screwed.

That would have to be the worst argument I’ve ever heard. So any monopoly over a necessity (I know they’re not a monopoly, just together they all agree on their price gouging) should simply be let be because it is necessary?

and sorry to have one post then come back late the next afternoon, I was quit busy today.

I assure you, stick around and you’ll hear much worse.

Look, I happen to believe that overall the drug companies are beneficial. Do they have warts? Most definitely. You will not hear me defend price gouging, their marketing departments, shady clinical trials, etc… but wiyhout their development, we wouldn’t have a large number of drugs. Period. I wish that these drugs were affordable and available to all. But realistically if there wasn’t a financial incentive they wouldn’t have been developed in the first place.

Since so many of you guys feel the same, start your own drug company. Then you can spend billions on R&D and give away the drugs. I for one don’t see what could possibly go wrong with that.

But why, when they are created here, are they SO MUCH cheaper in other countries? How can you defend them when they can’t even be fair to their OWN PEOPLE? If your friend worked at a car dealership and charged you 80% more than the person you don’t know, you’d be upset, right?

Price controls in those other countries.

Their own people? Uh, I am not of tribe Merck or Pfizer.

They aren’t my friend; they are a business. The sooner some of you figure that out, the better.

R and D my cock. Some people believe absolutely anything.

To the best of my knowledge, the governments in those countries impose limits on prescription medication prices. That is not true in the US. Oh, and not all companies that sell pharmaceuticals in the US are based here, either.

If anything, drug companies typically end up competing and drive down prices in the process - once a drug formula is out of patent and can be made by other companies, you get alternate/generic versions of the drug and the price goes down.

It’s called “collusion.”

Free your slave mind, you fucking abject, cowering serf.

Read this. If you’re only interested in info on the excesses of the modern pharmaceutical industry, you can skip the first 60% or so…

Sure thing, nutcase. I’ll be over here, ‘freeing my mind’, and you stay there, and free yourself from the tyrannical reign of the drug companies. Just remember your new-found freedom the next time you are sick.

How far up your ass do you have to stick your head to buy into this?

There’s nothing hidden about this situation (Canadian). The mechanics are easy to trace. MM will no doubt discuss it but he’s not gonna find any crap that’s not already known. And the Canadian profits flow into the same evil company.

Fat-cat management exists in just about every corporate sector. You’re paying for the fat-cats’ vacations when you buy cars, food, TVs, music, movies etc. It doesn’t mean that they are cheating. It means that their shareholders let them get away with it.

I think I had heard that it had something also to do with the single-payor system in the other countries. All the more reason for the US to jump on the bandwagon that other countries have done.

But I do agree with the competition thing to a point, competition is ALWAYS a good thing. At what point do we draw the line? I just think screwing your customers will eventually bite you in the ass.

My father-in-law is a doctor, I see where some of our money goes with these companies. How many Zoloft pens and coffee mugs and magnets does one need really? :dubious:

It’s called - I READ AND DO RESEARCH you fucking prick.

Try this for a start dipshit: www.erowid.com

I could use some more pens; the docs around here keep taking mine…

Heh, any sight with Gandalf on the front page must be a good source of medical knowledge!

Did you even get beyond the front page there genius??

No, too busy detoxifying my inner spirits with some coffee and Marlboro Lights. But hey, it looks like you don’t need those big and nasty drug companies! Just chew some lawn clipping or drink a squirrel poo infusion and presto! Natural healing!
