> Given the way the oral surgeon sneered at me when I went back, he hadn’t either. He seemed to have assumed I was just some drug-seeking addict (went on about the dangers of narcotics) and nothing I could say would get him on to the subject of diagnosing and treating the problem. I just got “dry-sockets” a pat on the head and a prescription for motrin. (Yes, I am that olde.)

Did he even place dressing in the socket? I’m not saying that I don’t get fooled but it is usually fairly easy to tell true pain from people just wanting drugs. Given the duration I’d be a lot more inclined to think nerve damage v. dry socket. FWIIW we still write prescriptions for motrin. If they want anything over the 200mg OTC amount, e.g. 400,600,800mg. I just tell folks to take multiples of the OTC as in my earlier post here.

**rsat3acr** , if you ever have time, an “ask the dentist” thread would be interesting!

Thank you, I’m flattered, time would be as issue and there is a lot of dentisty that I wouldn’t be able to answer questions about. I do try to answer in all the dental threads if I think I can be of help.

My dentist stuck gauze soaked in clove oil in my wisdom tooth holes. The taste of cloves was fine for about the first day, then I started throwing up.

But it did stop the pain.

That’s why in my earlier post I said to place a clean gauze over the medicated gauze.
