I got a Dual layer DVD burner for Christmas but I can’t get it to burn dual layer DVD’s. I suspect it is a software problem. I’m using Nero Burning Rom 6. I load the job up to 8gb and try to burn but it says “please insert a supported format”. It’s a dual layer dvd I’m using (10 bucks for one disc) so I would like it to work. Any ideas? Do I need special software? I’ve tried messing around with the settings in Nero but there is no mention of dual layer buring anywhere.

Is this version of Nero what came with the burner, or the latest update from their website, or something you’ve had for a while?

If it’s an install you’ve had for a while, you may need to update it to get it to recognize the burner properly.

It’s not something as simple as your drive being DVDR+ and the disc being DVDR- is it?

I had the same problem with my new burner and Nero for a while, as well. My fix was updating the software from the website so that I had the latest version-- IIRC, DL support wasn’t added to Nero until very recently.

The dual layer discs and drives are DVD+R only for the moment, so if the OP drive and discs are both labeled as DL-compatible, they should work together… definitely check the software.

Alrighty, had to update Nero to the new version and it started working fine, thanks!
