I haven’t had it by itself, but I got a Dubai chocolate doughnut from a bakery last summer. It was WAY too sweet. I don’t know if it was because that’s what Dubai chocolate is supposed to taste like, or if it was because it was combined with an over-sugared doughnut. The first bite or two were OK, but it got to be way too much. The doughnut is definitely not something I’d buy again. ---

I’ve never had the original Fix brand one, so maybe @Telemark can comment on what the baseline is. But the various commercial versions I’ve tried come in a range of sweetnesses, though do trend sweet, and I’ve had some homemade ones that were much more restrained. As I said above, when I make my own I use dark chocolate, because milk is just doubling down on sweetness I don’t think it needs. ---

Last year Trader Joe’s came out with their version, it was I think $3.99 per bar. Cheap enough to give it a try. It was definitely good and had the crunchy/flaky texture, and I’d buy it again if they ever bring it back, but glad I didn’t spend more. ---

It’s an overhyped fad. I’ve tried some, it’s interesting, but honestly I found the pastry in the chocolate a turn-off. ---

I really liked Lindt Pistachio chocolate bars I like pistachios, and Lindt is a quality chocolate brand at the supermarket. Lindt isn’t shelving pistachio chocolate bars at our supermarkets anymore, and I had high hopes for Dubai chocolate. But no. I wouldn’t buy that stuff at KitKat prices, because even at KitKat prices, KitKat is better. ---

The local Costco sells three types of Dubai Chocolate. It’s good, but at that price point there are many things I prefer. Costco also sells chocolate covered pistachios considerably cheaper. ---

The pistachio is okay, but what i really like is the crunch, and the second thing i like is the tahini. ---

Only a year later, my Trader Joe’s has their version in stock. Gotta say, I prefer it. Much cheaper, dark chocolate, better crunch than some I’ve tried. ---

There’s a conspiracy theory going around that the phrase “Dubai Chocolate” originally referred to a scatalogical sex act, and that the reason the dessert was all of a sudden everywhere was that the UAE government commissioned it to be made and splattered it all over social media to change search algorithm results. It’s almost certainly not true but I choose to believe it is. Because it makes me laugh. ---

I was wandering around the food section of Ocean State Job Lot _(motto: Here, you throw this out)_ and found a $5 bar of Dubai chocolate so I gave it a shot. I can honestly say it wasn’t horrible, but it was noticeably chalkier than the good stuff. ---

Either you tried a bad brand, or you don’t like chocolate, or you don’t like the fillings. I have a friend who made it a few times during the peak of the craze, and it’s a super combination of chocolate, something crunchy without a lot of flavor, (kataifi) and the creamy pistachio paste. There was a lot of bad Dubai chocolate out there for a while, made with cheap chocolate, though. 🤷‍♀️ ---
