From men with prostate troubles to post-stroke folks who might have paralysis issues to folks with spinal damage (my spouse among them) that isn’t totally disabling but does interfere with bladder control to those who have survived nasty diseases and accidents that leave them with these problems the numbers add up to quite a few people. You can’t know just by looking at someone. THEY need to use the “fucking toilet”, too. Are you able-bodied? Can you actually hold your bladder and bowels for a minute (a literal minute)? Then count your blessings, there are hundreds of thousands of people in this world who would like to be able to do so as well. You can wait a goddamned minute to piss or shit or both. And if you can’t, and you don’t suffer from one of those bladder/bowel control issues, then don’t wait so fucking long to go to the toilet. ---

For those who like to say “Why should I deprive myself of the luxury of using the handicap stall when I never even see a handicap person using it” or use other justifications for using the handicap stall when there are non-accessible options available for them, let me explain why you _should_ change your behavior. These stalls were created, and exist, in order to meet the needs of people who cannot use the standard facilities due to physical disabilities. If such people _weren’t_ out in the world, if they didn’t exist in the first place then the larger stalls meant to meet their needs wouldn’t exist either. _All_ the stalls would be the standard, smaller versions. Now before it is even brought up by others, let me say that in order to make room for these larger, accessible stalls, a number of the smaller stalls had to be taken out. So less able-bodied people are able to access and use the facilities at any given time, making it more likely that someone will not have such a stall available to them when they need it. Of course, in these situations, the handicapped stall serves as the “stall of necessity” that this able-bodied person can rely on when no other regular options are available. But not before. While a person may not see a disabled person in real life using the stalls, I guarantee you just about 100% of the disabled people who _do_ depend on such stalls are subjected to the senseless, selfish, rude and at times truly awful tendency of people using such stalls completely unnecessarily on a regular basis; thereby leaving them waiting outside the stall as they stare desperately at the rows of unused but unreachable toilets and urinals. And these stalls that the disabled person regularly is deprived of using (in a fair and sensical fashion) are stalls that are in existence _specifically to_ give those who cannot access the normal stalls an equal option. Everyone must occassionally wait to use a public restroom facility, that’s just life. I’m not suggesting or wanting the handicapped stalls to be reserved just for handicapped people. Not at all. What I do want is for people to change how they regard such stalls. Don’t view them as a luxury, view them as a necessity. ---

Yep. I’m a diabetic with a bit of prostrate trouble. I prefer to drip into a bowl rather than stand at a urinal and drip on my pants or sit on a throne and drip down my balls. I close & lock the door, though. ---
