I too don’t understand **Rue** , but have to admit that I’m so braindead I didn’t even try. I spent the weekend at Dragon_Con in Atlanta with 20,000 other (mostly) costumed geeks, and saw everyone from [Gandalf and Sauron]([http://members.cox.net/hemlyd/images/Gandalf](http://members.cox.net/hemlyd/images/Gandalf), Sauron, and Black Riders.JPG) to the winner of the [Miss Klingon Empire]([http://members.cox.net/hemlyd/images/Miss](http://members.cox.net/hemlyd/images/Miss) Klingon Empire.JPG) beauty pageant to a hotel [lobby full of stormtroopers]([http://members.cox.net/hemlyd/images/Lobby](http://members.cox.net/hemlyd/images/Lobby) full of Stormtroopers.JPG) to a [sex kitten chatting up a cop]([http://members.cox.net/hemlyd/images/Sex](http://members.cox.net/hemlyd/images/Sex) Kitten with Cop.JPG), and everything in between you can imagine, and a lot you can’t. Definitely put me in a frame of mind to understand **Rue’s** post if I still had any non-fried brain cells left. I highly recommend Dragon_Con to refresh your sense of the absurd, as well as your confidence that you are NOT the biggest geek in the universe. ---

I forgot to tell **Abby** , whilst I was in Boy Scouts (in the organization, I didn’t were a Boy Scout’s skin like a suit) there were three Eagle Scouts in the troop. One was the stereotypical Eagle Scout. Just too good and smart, yet a total geek. He was also on the Chess Team at school, but I think that was just co-incedence. The other two were the biggest stoners I ever met in my whole life. Including college. I, myself, did not reach the lofty rank of Eagle Scout. It was hard and I didn’t want to. So I stopped at Star Scout because that was the best badge. But then I accidentally made Life Scout but I never changed the badge on my Scout shirt. I was also the Assistant Scoutmaster briefly. That’s probably why you all feel you can trust me. My innate leadership skills. (Also, at one time or another I was a Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader and a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. Well, I’m the mom, so it’s hard to know these things for sure. He’s an Eagle Scout, he’s good, but not too good. He never cleans his room and his bathroom. Well ok maybe one a year he picks up the clutter, but he never _cleans_. He’s clean enough, although he’s a boy so lots of times he smells like one. He delights in not shaving until I feel the need to tell him he has to shave (usually saturday nights or sunday mornings). Oh and he’s a ginger red head so he looks a bit like Shaggy when he doesn’t shave. He’s an athlete. (That’s usually why he stinks, yanno, the sports stuff.) More than half his merit badges are sports related. He golfs, swims, plays football, basketball and waterpolo. He’s not fast (faster than his dad, so fast enough, just not one of the fastest) so he doesn’t care much for track although he did throw discus for a few years. (Never take your eyes off a high school discus thrower, even if you are behind them, it could be dangerous.) He waterskis, knee boards, wakeboards, skates, cycles and climbs. He’s tried archery, canoeing, rowing, and shooting. He’d rather get 16 friends together to play co-ed capture the flag and have a few pizzas than go on a double date with a girl and another couple. When he’s over worked or study stressed he plays video games or lego’s in front of a video. He’s smart. He does play chess (and can beat everyone here at the house) but hasn’t been in chess club since 6th grade. He’s a good student, but not too good. He takes honors classes in the maths and sciences. He’s a junior in high school and taking Honors Physics, Honors Calculus and AP History. He’s earning a C in Spanish on on level III and and takes on level language arts classes because he hates to read and spells worse than F. Scott Fitzgerald and Andrew Jackson. I’m sure he’s not a stoner. He has an uncle that is alcohol and drug induced schizophrenic and often by his own choice a street person, who TSA loved as a little boy, but has pitied since he was about 10. I don’t think he’s even tried beer, cigarettes or drugs yet. He’s too health conscious. He’d rather have a headache than take an asprin. His summer job was lifeguarding at the neighboorhood pool. He called it “babysitting and bikini watch by the bayou”. Now and then he gets pissy and talks back or sulks, puts fantasy football before homework, forgets to feed his dog or pay as much attention to her as she needs, and has to be forced to mow the yard. But all in all, he’s a great kid. He’s certainly my favorite teenager. As for appearance, I already mentioned the ginger read hair. He’s blue eyed and 5 10 weighing 136 and has nice muscle definition on his abs, back arms and legs. He’s wearing braces and has a bit of a struggle with teen breakouts, particularly during football season under the chin strap of his football helmet. Oh and he drives too fast. So what say ye? Goody Too Good Eagle Scout? or Geek? Abb (who’s really proud of her teenager, even if he is a too good geek) ---

I’m back. I got lost briefly in last week, but it was all **Wyatt’s** fault, so blame him. **Abby** , as a recently former teenager, I’d say your son is both a geek and a good Eagle scout. Which is a good thing. My brother managed to pull it off for a long time, and he’s now engaged and in med school. Your son reminds me a lot of my brother actually. I haven’t ever met Jonathan Frakes, but I have had a crush on him since he played the dastardly Stanley Hazzard in North and South . My brother Andy and sister Sara and I used to watch it all the time. It was a very strange childhood. We even had a cat named Madeline. One of our favorite games, created by Andy and Sara, was called “The Old and the Tired.” It was a Soap Opera in the style of “The Young and the Restless”. All of their friends would play. I’m the youngest so I got the worst parts of course. -Lil(not yet old, but a bit tired) ---

Forgot to mention, my vacation was nice. Didn’t rain all week. Just sunshine and beaches. I even got rid of the evil children for two days, so that I could concentrate on drinking rum. **Abby** , if you find you need a place to store that fooz-ball table just send it my way. Sounds like your kid is “good, but not too good” **Abby**. It must be your fdabulous mothering. The way you walk him to his class everyday and give him a kis on his cheek before you send him off to another day of book-learnin’. Nothing says “popular” like a mother’s love. But “co-ed capture the flag”? Is THAT what the kids are calling it these days? It’s a good thing he has his sports to fall back on. Chicks just don’t dig a well-versed knowlege of knot tying. Heh. The Little Woman was about crushed last year when she took ol’ Soup to class the first day. She thought she’d hang around for a little while and make sure he settled in OK.
