The missiles would without doubt have been used to launch nuclear attacks on American and other North American cities.
OK let’s review your rational Tomh … in a cold war situation situation , if you were in command, you would hang your argument and the lives of the entire North American continent not to mention the civilized world on a couple of verbs could and would? Am I correct on that? Aren’t we all lucky that you aren’t in charge of anything that would risk human life. What a self-bloated puffed up, pseudo intellectual you are…
And as far as your hair-splitting explanation about your whiney backdoor insults, go try them on some ignorant moron…karmacoma comes to mind.
Yours truly,
aha
aha,
I don’t understand why you don’t get it. You said (to KarmaComa):
Well alright, yes I do. This is not about public policy or how the US behaved at the time or anything else. I am not asking you to justify anything other than your own assertion that the US and Canada would have been incinerated if the US had not “faced down” the Soviet Union in 1961.
I might remind you that you haven’t been able to justify any of the other assertions I called you on either: the UK’s fear of invasion and Pinochet’s and Castro’s expansionism. I didn’t even bother about the 60 per cent tax rate suggestion.
So come on, can you back any of your assertions up with facts? Really, I’d be keen to hear them. As it is, I think that Esprix’s comments above are pretty accurate.
I hope you all have noticed that since his first two posts on this thread (and the only two overall), Britt has been silent.
Bitch by Birth
That’s because brit’s a troll and an idiot.
Actually, I’d be curious to see any such evidence for the same assertion.
Don’t misunderstand me. I think the U.S. did exactly the right thing by ordering them removed. (And I’m quite glad that we didn’t have to send you and your buddies in to enforce the order.)
However, the Cuban missiles were not significantly closer to Washington than our Turkish missiles were to Moscow (and our German missiles were closer to Moscow than Cuba is to Washington). There is also a bit of evidence that they never did pull all the missiles out of Cuba.
Similarly, within a few years of 1962, both the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. had submarine-launched missiles that could get much closer to their targets and we still never blw each other away. I’m afraid that I would need to see evidence of a genuine first-strike intention on the part of the U.S.S.R. before I could accept your original statement at face value.
Tom~
I am happy to be absurd, and regret to admit that I am uninformed.
I only drool in my sleep when I’m really tired.
I don’t own a thesaurus (nor do I own a dictionary… I should get one!)
You are an avaricious, lonely, unfulfulled, common, downright boring person.
Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful,
hate me because i’m an arrogant bastard.
TomH:
Well doesn’t that road run both ways? How about you justify that they wouldn’t have. Assertion is YOUR word I was simply stating my opinion of which I am entitled. However:
Small time thugs and human rights violators like Pinochet/Hussien/Hitler/Qadhafi ALWAYS have agendas that include expansionism. (I am not sure I am compelled to justify or explain common sense) The fact that these thugs don’t have the resources to do anything about it is beside the point.
As far as the tax laws in England? 60% may have been an exaggeration but people like John Lennon ( New York) and George Harrison ( Hawaii) moved here to keep from getting fleeced by the British Government.
This is taken from The UK Tax guide: http://www.taxguide.co.uk/itcalc.htm
After deducting reliefs and allowances from your income, you have your taxable income. The first chunk of this is taxed at the starting rate (10 per cent), the next slice at the basic rate (23 per cent) and anything more is taxed at the higher rate (40 per cent). Savings income below £28,000 is taxed at 20 per cent, while anything over this limit is taxed at 40 per cent. Any thing over 28000 lbs yearly is subject to a 40% tax.
Kinda stiff ain’t it?
Now this will be the last ounce of entertainment I am going to contribute to the OP Brit.
You feel free to carry on.
Yours truly,
aha
aha: Pluto’s core is made of white chocolate.
intelligent human: Prove it.
aha: Prove it isn’t! It’s your responsibility in this argument!
aha,
I would continue the argument but sincerely doubt that there is anything to be gained in pursuing a discussion with someone who thinks that 40 = 60 and that his assertions should enjoy a special assumption of correctness.
Come back when you’re ready to argue like a grown-up.
I do believe you are understating our tax liabilities somewhat AHA .
Tax is anything the politicians take off me wether they are local, regional or even if they give it another name such as Community Charge(City Tax), National Insurance(about 5%),Gas duty(about 90%),Alcohol duty(varies to about50%),Value Added Tax(on most purchases at 17.5%)
The tax burden on the employee is at least 38% when all this is added up and that is on totally crap wages too it gets higher if you earn more.Oh- and don’t forget that gem the TV licence-Yup you need to buy a licence to watch it over here!!
Governments-
They’re all a bunch of shiftless, greedy ,grasping ,arrogant , workshy, lying ,scumsucking ,fart breathing, arselicking tossers who wouldn’t know how to run a hamburger stand if it come with instructions written in 3rd grade English on the side of the easy open bio-degradable box labelled ‘How to run an economy you thickhead bastards!’
And we voted them in!!!
**You[b/] may well have voted them in, **I[b/] most certainly did not. If anyone couldn’t see through ‘Smiley Blair’ all along, they should forfeit the right to ever vote again, imbeciles. When will the government get the message, government spending is not government money, it’s my fucking money, and i’m a better judge of it’s uses than any politician ever has or ever will prove to be.
You’d think i’d have got the hang of this code stuff by now. Sorry.
I didn’t say you were, I just said some of your posts were making us look like bigots. I know you’re not.
Steam away, but be aware of the consequences (something I’ve already found out in the Pit myself), for better or for worse.
Nah - you have sound opinions just like everyone else, and it’s about something near n’ dear to yer heart. Just remember that language and words have power - so use it wisely.
Esprix
Take on me- aha
My hope is that aha is american, in that, it would be a shame to confuse this thread with anything more that why americans are blindly ignorant.
aha- your impression of the Cuban missle crisis is embarassingly narrow-minded and I assume, gleaned from american propaganda.
It’s baaaahaaaaaack!!
Can someone translate this into English for me? For fucks sake, bj0rn is easier to read. MHL, the last time you started talking out of your ass, you shat in capital letters and understandable sentences, at least.

Don’t bother, aha. Aside from sneering at all the terrible 'mer’cans, Mary Hart’s Legs hasn’t submitted a single post of substance in around 48 tries. It enjoys making broad, sweeping generalizations about those horrid 'mer’cans, but can’t actually distinguish between reality and its own mythology. (It also refuses to identify the land that it calls home, preferring to snipe from anonymity.) I have never actually made this call, before, but I call troll on MHL.
Tom~
Tomndebb-
I think nationalistic tendancies suck, I’m not sure why it’s so important to you.
Many of my posts have been far from generalizatons, you’ve obviously been looking in the wrong places. As I have made the statement before, I am more than happy to refute challenges to my statements but, please offer concrete basis for further discussion. For example, my earlier post to aha not only ridiculed his fruity pop music handle but also addressed his one sided mind on a incident of global significance. If you agree with that numbskull, I’ll give you the retort required.
Coldfire,
I’m suprised you have trouble with such simple sentence construction.
Although better that you offered the proof of your tiny intellect now than later during your furthered attempts to read posts within a potentially complex debate.
There you go again: that last sentence is something that may be used in a spoken conversation, but it is not a valid sentence construction I ever learned.
But then, I’ve probably been attending the wrong educational institutes.
At least try and explain why you find it necessary to make these generalizations. As you noted, many of your posts have not been generalizations. Granted, but most of them HAVE been. Why? What is you problem? Why not take every American at face value, even if you DO hate their country, for whatever reason?
Anything you wanna get off your chest about us potsmokin’ clogwearin’ tulipgrowin’ Dutch bastards, while you’re at it?

Just to clarify:
And now you say you think nationalist tendencies suck? Please explain. Isn’t a negative generalisation of one nationality an implicit nationalist tendency towards another?
