Now we’re going to hear about how the godless liberals drove him out of his job.

Again, let’s shout out some love for the 40% of the congregation that left in protest of this bonehead’s actions.

Definitely, and it is extended also to those conservative Republicans who also walked out. Good for them. 🙂

No, if a bolt of lightning had come out of the sky on a bright blue day and _ZOT_ Mr. Chandler on the spot, _then_ we’d be talking about divine intervention at work… 😉

Forty _members_, not forty percent. I think the congregation was around four hundred before the brouhaha.

Several links on this page say the church had 100 members before the 9 were ejected.

Which ones? The only one I saw that said how big the church was, (and, I admit, I didn’t check all of them) was the one [I posted](http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/n/a/2005/05/07/national/a020236D33.DTL). According to that,

> Chandler didn’t return a message left by The Associated Press at his home Friday, and several calls to the church went unanswered. He told WLOS-TV in Asheville that the actions were not politically motivated.
>
> The station also reported that 40 others in the 400-member congregation resigned in protest after Monday’s vote.

Of course, I like your percentage better, but now I’m curious exactly how many people attend this church.

The Atlanta paper described it as a 100-member church yesterday. Also, there’s [this article](http://www.citizen-times.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050508/NEWS01/50507013/1001) from the Asheville Citizen-Times:

From **Squink** ’s link.

It looks like we have yet another case of poor journalism. A 400 member AND a 100 member cite are from the _same paper_.

One hundred members does sound more plausible for a small town church, too. Looks like my cite was wrong. Cool! 40% of the congregation calling the pastor on his bullshit is much better than 10%
