I’m skeptical — not about the probability of it happening, but that it’s already official. That’s a movie clickbait site, not a legit news outlet, and its only citation is to Jeff Sneider who is a notoriously unreliable rumormonger (and also an **[asshole](https://www.mic.com/articles/160870/mashable-declared-oscars-so-white-over-twitter-disagreed)** who hasn’t been a true insider since he was **[fired from Variety for unprofessional behavior](https://www.thewrap.com/jeff-sneider-fired-variety-75291/)** ten years ago). Officially we know that Villeneuve finished the screenplay, but I don’t think WB is likely to greenlight the third film (which has a specific technical meaning in the film biz) until the second one opens and they see what the box office looks like. That’s especially true right now because the studio is in **[a lot](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/warner-bros-discovery-jettisons-more-key-executives-as-company-shake-up-continues-184214628.html)** of **[turmoil](https://deadline.com/2023/12/meredith-gertler-lisa-holme-exit-vanessa-brookman-promoted-warner-bros-discovery-1235667440/)** (which will doubtless continue as long as the **[same moron](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/streaming-companies-burying-shows-hbo-max-and-possibly-others-is-this-allowed/970032)** is **[in charge](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/should-i-be-worried-about-turner-classic-movies/986264)**). When the greenlight announcement appears in Deadline or Variety or some other mainstream source, then we can take it to the bank.
