MODS: This seems like opinion-oriented (IMHO?), though it could be Entertainment-oriented (Cafe?) , as well. My searches for this topic have come up with only pre-2010 threads. Since my 2009 version of DVDflick is no longer supported and it’s just kinda clumsy to work with, I thought I’d ask about more modern incarnations. Yes, I realize even DVDs and movies thereon are old school. However, my Tai Chi students are asking me to record our moves and forms and some of them actually find it too confusing to go surfing the Interwebs for stuff. I have a couple video cameras and a place to record and even some neat editing software (Camtasia, if you’re interested) that I like using. What I need, though, is… - Drag-and-drop convenience - Menu customization (backgrounds, audio tracks, subtitles, program selection) - Component resizing ability? I want to adjust the buttons or titles on the menus without having to go into the Config file and tweak numbers. - What-you-see-is-what-you-get graphical interface. See above. - The ability to save the raw video file (ISO) separately - The ability to burn that raw video file, separately, several times It doesn’t NEED to be free, though I’d rather it not be too expensive (roughly $100 should be fine). The free/cheap stuff makes me nervous because I figure the developer/distributor is probably making their actual profit by planting malware on my machine. The expensive stuff isn’t needed because that kind of software will undoubtedly have too many advanced features for my relatively simple needs. [At least I think they’re relatively simple.] There was a rock-n-roll videographer amongst us for quite a while but I haven’t seen any posts from him since we migrated. Does anyone else have suggestions? –G? ---

Handbrake can RIP DVDs, but I don’t believe it can BURN DVDs, which is what the OP asked for. ---

What the OP is asking for is a bit confusing because the thread title doesn’t match the description in the OP. They’re certainly not asking about DVD **burning** software as Windows can do that itself, though not even close to having all the sophisticated features of a program like Nero. They’re not asking about a video processing program, either, which is what Handbrake is, although theh may want that, too, and I agree it’s excellent. What they’re asking for sounds like a DVD authoring tool, so something like DVDStyler as mentioned above, or commercial DVD authoring programs. ---

Thank you all for your input. Keep 'em coming if there’s more. The guy who printed my shirts and banner says he uses Roxio and Nero, but now I’m wondering if those are for burning rather than authoring. [And if a Mod could update the title, that would be spiffy, since I’m way to late to do that and I don’t have Thread Authoring Software. –G! ---

Nero is a full-function CD and DVD burning package, but it’s not an authoring tool. I’ve never used Roxio but they claim to have DVD authoring software called Roxio Creator.
