DVD collections

Mine are also kept in binders to save on space. I have separated into two categories: TV and movies, then they are stored alphabetically within each category. Probably only have around 150 titles, so not as wide a collection as I would like.

I used to put them all in alphabetical order, but now I group mine by genre. That way when I feel like watching, say, a sci-fi movie, I can just look over that group instead of the whole collection.

I thought about just listing them alphabetically, but it would have made it difficult to browse genres. My ‘Drama’ section could be further subdivided. For example, there’s one or two ‘romance’ films up there. (Why? ) Or some might fit as well in Comedy. I could have a ‘Caper’ section (Swordfish, the two versions of The Italian Job, Ocean’s 11, or Trainspotting for examples), and ‘Thrillers’ and ‘Adventure’. For me though, the genres I’ve listed are good enough.

And now that I have a spreadsheet, I can find stuff even more easily. More importantly, I can stop buying duplicates! :smack:

I have over 800 DVDs, more than half are for Asian movies.

I have some rather nice shelving for them–several of the “put-togethers” from Best Buy–I think each one was $150 or so. They take up a whole wall in the theater room (finished basement).

I am pretty OCD when it comes to collections. I have everything entered into a spreadsheet** by title and county that made the movie, as well as the country that issued the DVD, which are often not the same.

Shelf organization is as such:

–all my Korean DVDs together, alphabetized–about 150
–Japanese together, alphabetized–about 50
–Chinese/HK together, here grouped by subcategory (wuxia/kung fu; modern action; comedy; Category III, etc.)–about 300
–“other foreign,” alphabetized – about 40
–U.S. movies on a separate shelf, alphabetized–about 300

** I also keep track of my rental watches. For example, I’m a huge aficianado of Korean film. Aside from the 150 or so DVDs on my shelf, I’ve watched over 100 more on rentals or on DVDs I’ve subequently sold.

I bought big binders and organize them by Genre. I can just snap in an empty sleeve when a genre is full.

Ours are sorted in a couple ways. Unwatched DVDs are on two shelves, divided into TV series and movies and sorted aphabetically. Once watched, they go alphabetically into one of the two cabinets we have, again separated by TV series and movies. Our Blu-ray discs are kept upstairs by the Blu-ray player and are again separated out as either watched or unwatched, but there aren’t very many of them yet, so there hasn’t been a need to divide them up further.

I have a pretty-good size one, and a lot of the releases in it, I regret getting now (“Knight Rider,” “Dennis The Menace” [TV show, not 1993 movie], “Cagney and Lacey,” #3 of “Moonlighting,” the first of “Hogan’s Heroes,” “Get Smart,” etc.). Don’t know why, but those are my biggest regrets.

Ditto! I’m very much the same way you are. I like acquiring, but a lot of the stuff I get, I hardly get around to looking at.
