I have over 800 DVD movies and I put together over 300 to sell on CL. I asked $60 for them and never a bite. It’s an assortment of drama, crime, comedy, whatever. Stuff that I outgrew. You’d think there’s a movie buff out there somewhere who’d like a collection. :rolleyes: ---

I don’t know what price generic DVDs go for where you are, but you can reguarly see market stalls selling them for 50p (about 61 cents US) each. I’m guessing very few people will be both interested in and not currently own more than a handful of 300 random DVDs ---

There was a time when I would buy almost anything on DVD just because it was on DVD. That time was in the late 1990s. Now, I have no interest in DVDs that aren’t of movies that I actually want. Maybe nobody sees $60 worth of movies in your set. Maybe you have the same standard popular movies that everyone who buys DVDs already has. (I guarantee you that if you were selling 300 Criterion Collection DVDs for $60, you would have a buyer within minutes of the ad going up.) ---

Perhaps it’s just saturation, everybody has large DVD collections. I’d buy a “job lot” of 300 though and I’m sure others would, try to sell them again. For what it’s worth, I buy Blue-rays quite a lot (on impulse mostly) but hardly ever DVDs. Like **Mr Shine** said up thread they are crazy cheap at boot sales and markets and usually only cost about £7 for a brand new DVD a week or two after release. Maybe it’s a States thing with streaming being so popular, having the disk still seems popular in the UK. ---

Never underestimate the laziness of the American consumer. With a DVD you have to _get up_ out of chair, _walk_ over to the entertainment center, _find_ the DVD, _put_ in the player, _walk_ back to your chair and _sit down_. That is just too much effort. With streaming, you push some buttons without getting up. There’s also the TV saturation problem. There’s so much new stuff to watch there’s not enough time to watch old stuff you’ve seen before. As to collectors wanting to buy you’re stuff. They probably already have it by now. Note that some new stuff will never be released on DVD. E.g., _The Simpsons_ are no longer getting DVD releases. When that happens it means the end times are upon us. ---

How many people would want a collection of 300 movies all at one time? Even if you watch one movie per day, that would take almost an entire year. I still buy DVDs and blu rays, but I’m pretty picky as to what I buy. It would have to be something that I know I’ll certainly watch again. ---

I own like 500-600, including tv shows. What are the chances your 300 have even 25% that I want/don’t already have. Sure I can take the remaining 250 to the used store. Chances are they don’t want them either. ---

That’s a shame because The Simpsons collections were some of the best DVD collections made. Unique well designed/illustrated packaging, booklets, tons of extras and commentaries on every episode. (in fact, that’s one thing owning a DVD or BluRay will always have over streaming, all the extras) My guess is now that The Simpsons are on FXX 5 nights a week that going to all that work for a DVD set just doesn’t make it worth it. ---

By the way, they’re on spindles no cases so that’s probably why they won’t sell. The cases takes up a lot of room for 800+ disks. ---
