Dylann Roof found guilty - rot in hell

The family wants to forgive him, that’s fine. But I don’t. He didn’t just harm those family, but the entire black community and I, for one, am tired of “forgiving” white people who do us evil.

Just white people?

This case, and the Dallas PD shootings, are a microcosm of how the actions of extremists on one side inflame the extremists on the other. Indeed, the primary beneficiaries of the actions of extremists are their opposite numbers.

Something to keep in mind when formulating not just national policy, but international policy as well.

This just seems profoundly fucked up to me.

One less Trump voter in 2020.

We’re discussing what the government should do, so fuck right off with your Biblical Bullshit.

Oh no, is someone getting just a little touchy? Easily offended maybe?

BobLibDem did quote the Bible, but their suggestion as to how Roof should be treated mentioned neither Scripture or the government. And it did have the virtue of not mentioning the possibility of parole.

And even so, is it forbidden to mention religion? The title of the thread says he should go to Hell even.

That’s a wee bit harsh. What the government should do has at some point some moral compass. I don’t suggest that the Bible be the litmus test for what governments should do, but since most Americans profess to be Christians I thought some of them need to be reminded of what the Christian position should be.

Well put, BobLimDem…though I’d assumed you’d quoted scripture mainly because this particular murder occurred in a church.

Actually, no. I just tire of the right wingers quoting scripture when they think it suits them, whereas many of their positions are contrary to Christian teaching- things like feeding the poor and such.

I vote for Republicans and I’m a Jew; can I cheerfully advocate for executing Roof?

Got it. Agreed. (to BobLibDem).

I suppose you could. Old Testament scripture would support your position. But I suggest that cheerfully wishing death on another is not good for your mental health.

Well, I’ll shoulder that burden for the greater good.

I can relate. I’m rooting for the natural death for a certain person with an orange face and a dead weasel on his head. But I’m rooting for a natural death, perhaps terminal diarrhea. I just won’t be a party to his death.

I’m ashamed to admit this, but I had forgotten who Dylann Roof was … thank you OP for reminding me … that was very kind of you …

These are the only names I remembered, how stupid of me:

Cynthia Marie Graham Hurd (54) – Bible study member and manager for the Charleston County Public Library system; sister of Malcolm Graham.
Susie Jackson (87) – a Bible study and church choir member.
Ethel Lee Lance (70) – the church’s sexton.
Depayne Middleton-Doctor (49) – a pastor who was also employed as a school administrator and admissions coordinator at Southern Wesleyan University.
Clementa C. Pinckney (41) – the church’s pastor and a South Carolina state senator.
Tywanza Sanders (26) – a Bible study member; grandnephew of Susie Jackson.
Daniel Simmons (74) – a pastor who also served at Greater Zion AME Church in Awendaw.
Sharonda Coleman-Singleton (45) – a pastor; also a speech therapist and track coach at Goose Creek High School.
Myra Thompson (59) – a Bible study teacher.

By all accounts they were lovely people and they extended a warm welcome to this white stranger who came into their church and invited him to pray with them. To their credit, I have heard some of them say that they do not wish death for him. I don’t know if they are in the majority or not but their capacity to forgive is admirable.

“I’m against the death penalty, but in this case…”

Everyone saying that? You are for the death penalty. You might have a different line than most, but you are for the death penalty. If there are any conditions under which you think it is okay to kill someone, either because it is so clear he did it, or because it is on the books, or whatever reason you think differentiates from other cases, you have conditions that make the death penalty acceptable.

it’s people that wish to kill and/or torture people like him that perpetuate the violence of our killers. We advocate killing as the answer for our problems then we wail and gnash our teeth when someone GASP kills as an answer to their problem. I’ve never understood how people can be like this. It’s like they saying murder is ok but only at certain times to certain people but the act of murder itself is perfectly ok when we say it is.

If what he did was wrong how can perpetuating the same action against him be right? Do they really believe two wrongs make a right?

That’s why my heart breaks for the victims families in this case that don’t feel this way. They are truly remarkable people who are truly enlightened souls. Those people who have jack shit to do with the scenario who want to torture and kill him, not so much.

It’s funny how the murder rate is so high in a country that advocates killing as a solution to their problems. No wait, it’s not funny at all; it’s blindingly obvious why that is.

States Without the Death Penalty Have Had Consistently Lower Murder Rates

It’s all about the message we send to those who are not able to compartmentalize their evil side as well as presumably those murder wishers calling for his murder can and actually act out their solutions. No, these aren’t purely evil individuals. They’re just us without the self control.

Sure. Doesn’t surprise me that a culture that advocates killing for such crimes as adultry would find themselves the victims of genocidal individuals who considered them a problem they had to deal with. Again, you can’t push killing as a solution and not expect it returned in kind by those who consider you the problem. Right?

That’s why advocating killing really needs to be stopped IMHO. Nrver happen though. People are too emotionally driven for that to ever truly be possible.
