Hmmm… unless Canada has a specific legal definition of importer, I guess I broke the law today. Still, I “lit up” in this neat little Thai place, and my dinner partners were kind of intrigued, and no one complained (including the owners!).
New York is trying to ban them as well. Further proof that the anti-smoking movement is about control, nothing more.
I’m bumping this because I’ve been talking to a couple of my smoking friends and they are interested. I admit that I’ve scrolled down and didn’t read everything…but how does one give you referral points?
I disagree with this. Though I am sure that there are people who want to control, as in every movement. But I don’t think the anti-smoking movement has caught up with these things yet. I consider myself an anti-smoker, but I support legalizing e-cigs.
deskface
Don’t you see what you just did? As an anti-smoker, you said you would support leagalizing something that is already legal. The irony burns.
Anyhow, please don’t let this infomative thread go to into non smokers vs. smokers thing. Smokers already know that they are the scum of the earth and will die painful deaths. They get that and chose to use a legal way to self medicate.
The reason I brought this thread up is so that more smokers could find ways to live in peace and harmony with the non smokers. And to give Spit his reference points.
I think Sunspace is Canadian, right? Supposedly, they’re not legal in Canada, although this thread is the first place I’ve heard of it.
Eh? Where I am, they are apparently not legal.
And that’s what I am trying to do, too. As I said before, if what I read here is correct, e-cigs are a huge positive development, removing so many of the bad effects of smoking while allowing self-medication.
Yes. The Health Canada link earlier said that they may be sold in Canada if they get regulatory approval, and they apparently have not been so approved.
Edit: whether they are actually available in Canada is another question. I have no idea.
I should probably report this: it’s been 3 1/2 days since my last cigarette.
When I read your link a few days ago from Oakville, a quick Google Maps search showed several locations in the GTA that appeared to be vaping suppliers.
That they don’t endorse them doesn’t mean they aren’t allowed to be sold.
I’m in Canada and I bought mine at the local weekend flea market. The lack of endorsement means they haven’t made it into variety stores and many people don’t realize they are out there.
But they are, you just have to seek them out, is all.
The legal status in the US is murky. There is no law against ecigs and sellers are not being stopped from selling them … but the FDA has instructed Customs to seize shipments, calling ecigs an “unapproved medical device.” (I have personal experience with this – had several thousand dollars worth of them seized and destroyed.) Since most ecigs are made in China and some small amount in India, the importers are taking a risk that their shipments will not get through.
The “unapproved medical device” label is being challenged by a couple of importers … their advertising does not claim to be a “smoking cessation method.” That is the key. Basically, the big pharma companies that produce nicotine patches and the like do not want the competition. It’s big corporations with government agencies in their pocket trying to preserve their monopoly.
Spit, I’ll be ordering one of these kits for my wife, and I’d like to give you the points too. Let me know how we do it.
Also, can you make a recommendation on what to get (Magma vs. Inferno vs. V-Kit)? I couldn’t really figure out what the differences were between each kit from the site.
Lastly, from reading the thread, apparently the general opinion is that the preloaded cartridges aren’t as good as the drip. If we were wanted a set up that would allow both, what would we need?
Thanks for all of the info. This is a great thread.

I’m not Spit but I am a satisfied newbie. For drip, get a bottle of something good (Cherry Lava and Bluewater Punch are my favorites so far) and one of the drip tips. That with your atomizer and battery will be all you need.
I’ve begun to like the cartridges again since the blue foam mod (just Google it). While dripping is better, you have to constantly drip, whereas the blue foam filled cartridge will last a while.
I’d like to try the cartomizers myself, but they’ve been out of stock. Anyone have any opinions on those?
They are what I am using and I don’t have any complaints.

I apologize. I live under a rock. By the time something pings my radar I just assume that its mainstream. I also assume that everyone gets all the ads I do.
Offers to shake hands and make up. I’m sorry.
Does Volcano take PayPal? I can’t seem to find that information.
So I just quit myself, but I am trying to get my dad to AT LEAST stop with the analogs and try e-cigs. I’m offering to buy and set up all the gear for him (up to the first puff) just to get him going.
Dad smokes Camel filters, full flavor. I suspect that the Magma “USA Tobacco” would be ok…it’s 16mg while according to a chart I saw, his are 15mg.
However, some of you are saying that 24mg is the way to go. If that’s the case, then I need to get him some juice from eliquidplanet.com as they have 24mg.
I found their Camel flavor (desert something) but it gets bad reviews. I don’t know what might have the right taste for him. Certainly nothing fruity to start with.
Maybe just Turkish? I considered sample pack but it looks like there’s at least one cigar-like flavor. Are they all cigar-like? Is Turkish cigar-like?
Help! I need to get this right, right off the bat, because I am dealing with a man who treats his cigarettes as if he were their mama.
I’m going on two weeks now since my last cigarette. I just want to share something I’ve found kind of cool about vaping: it seems I can go for longer periods without getting nicotine, and I don’t miss it as much. I suppose this is the effect Spit has described.
When I’m at home, I still puff on my Magma at about the same rate & frequency that I used to smoke. I’m starting to wonder how much of that is habit. I have a new girlfriend, and I’ve been going over to her place almost every night these past couple of weeks; I might be there for four or five hours, and I’ll pull out my Magma maybe once or twice and take a few puffs. That’s it - and I don’t seem to miss getting my normal dosage of nicotine, or even notice that a couple of hours have gone by since my last fix. If I was still smoking, I don’t think I’d be able to stand doing that - I’m sure I’d have to duck outside at least once an hour.
This seems kind of funny to me, because in using the 16mg juice, I thought I’d figured out that I’m actually getting more nicotine through vaping that I was through smoking. But maybe not - perhaps I’m not understanding how much nicotine is actually in a cartridge or bottle of 16mg juice. Does anyone know? I assumed that a 16mg cartridge meant there is 16mg of nicotine in the entire cart, so if a cart is roughly five cigarettes that’s ~3 mg per smoke, as opposed to about 1 mg from a real cigarette. Am I wrong about that?

I don’t know about how the carts are labeled, but I can tell you that the amount of nicotine that one smoker gets from a cigarette can vary widely from what another smoker gets from the same cigarette. Depth and even style of inhale (the mouth suck vs. lung suck mentioned upthread) and frequency of hit affect the amount of nicotine you personally got from each cigarette you used to smoke. It varies so widely, in fact, that cigarette manufacturers had to take “Light” off their boxes and marketing materials. There’s no way to tell if you’re getting less nicotine (or tar) from a “Light” cigarette than you would a “full flavor”, because smokers tend to change their smoking technique to subvert the manufacturer’s efforts to give you less tar or nicotine with some cigarettes.
So…the numbers don’t mean much. You can’t really know how much nicotine you were getting before, so there’s nothing to compare your vaping liquid with, really.
The mg figure is milligrams/milliliter … so you could figure out how many drops in a mL, how many mL in your bottle, how many drops you put in your cartridge, how many puffs you get on a cartridge with that many drops, etc., but you’re still up against the fact that you don’t really know how many mg of nicotine you get from a cigarette.
