Last night, I checked the box saying “Email notification” for a few threads that I posted to, so I would get e-mail when a reply was made. I’ve done this before without problem, but I didn’t get the handfull of e-mails I would normally have gotten (yes, there were replies to the threads; one was [this one](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=44522)). Is there something wrong with the server that pumps out these e-mails? (I’m going to activate Email Notification for this thread, just for kicks.) ---

Instead of the fistful of notifications that you get on a busy thread, you will now get ONE notification until you sign back onto the board. That will reset the counter until you get another one. It’s a new feature, the techs have been tinkering with it a bit. And don’t forget you must also be sure to have the “email notification” clicked on in your profile setting or you won’t get any at all. your humble TubaDiva Administrator ---

How new? I’ve been using it since summertime, at least. I tried setting what you suggested in my profile once, but that turned it on for **all** threads. I just want it for the ones I choose. That’s how I’ve been doing it, and it hasn’t been working in the last day or so. Have the techs been tinkering with it lately? ---

The modifications are new and are still being fiddled with. It’s in the interest of better overall board functionality, apparently different functions contribute to the slowdown that sometimes plagues the board. You should find the email notification workable now, though. It may have been off briefly this morning, but I believe it’s back on.
