A blowtorch directly in the ear every now and then does wonders. 😉

Electric shaver, actually

> Yeah, it’s gross and shows a lack of grooming. If you’re looking for women to come in here and say it’s okay, you don’t have to bother- it’s not gonna happen.

Weh? Your standard is the only standard and anyone who disagrees does not exist? If you’d read the thread you might have been dissuaded from this misinformed belief.

Ear hair on a partner wouldn’t bother this woman very much at all. I wouldn’t be attracted to it any more than I’m attracted to tighty-whities or watching golf on tv, but it’s not a dealbreaker. It’s just one of those things that happens as people age and it’s really not that big of a deal to me.

I refuse to concede that I am the only woman in the world who thinks like this.

**Nose** : I use to pluck, but heard it’s not safe to do so. Now I use [this](http://www.amazon.com/Journeys-Edge-Dutch-Engineered-Trimmer/dp/B0024BOWZC) rotary hair trimmer. Works great, and is less than $8.

**Ears** : Sometimes I’ll pluck the hairs out (it’s safe to do so), but lately I’ve been using the rotary hair trimmer to trim them.

There _is_ a standard for grooming- varies by culture and country, and yes, some people do deviate from it, but we assume that threads are speaking of the norm. I’m sure there are men that wouldn’t mind if you didn’t shave your legs, too, but that’s not the norm in America.

I’m with you, **rachelellogram** it’s not such a big deal. I also appreciate your comment that it’s a normal aspect of aging. Of the things that would bother me about a man’s grooming, ear hair _shrug_.

Now if he didn’t wash his hair often or had a full moustache coming out of his nose or didn’t make any effort at all - that would bother me as a sign of a larger issue. But ear hair?

I pluck & trim my ears almost daily. Its annoying, but it beats the alternative.

Sometimes when driving I’ll see a sign for someplace that offers waxing / hair removal and I’ll wonder if they’d do ear hair removal. Imagine: 30 days without trimming & plucking…
But I know that they can’t do that; it’d be too dangerous.

Yep. Electric razor every week or two gets rid of it easily.

Actually I thought I was the only one doing this! Not really a topic that’s come up before.

First of all I have been going to the same lady to cut my hair for about 15 years. She trims everything that needs to be trimmed; which is good because as I get less and less hair on top, I’m providing her a way to continue charging me the same amount! 🙂

This is probably TMI, but I have Leatherman tool in my car. When I’m at stop lights, since I happen to have a mirror handy… I use the pliers in the Leatherman to keep the nose hairs out of site. They’re smaller than standard pliers, but bigger than needle nose. Just perfect for grabbing a group of hairs and yanking them out. It doesn’t even bother me anymore.

Regarding ear hair… Like many said above; I use the attachment on my razor to clean up the best I can. I just turned 49 and I’m seeing the usual ear-hole hair; but now I’ve been seeing some ear lobe hair! WTF is that all about?

I didn’t see it mentioned here but I also trim my eyebrows with the above mentioned razor. I comb the brows straight up, and cut the long ones.

Again, All the above is also taken care of by Blanca, my haircut professional extraordinaire.

The crests of my helixes are about the only parts of my ears that get serious hair. I just shave those when I shave my face. They rarely get to be a problem.

Trouble with ear hair is you never really notice it unless you make an effort to look at it. Besides that, the ear hairs start doing their thing at about the same time you start losing your close-up vision. I make an effort to yank mine when I become aware of them, but I almost never see the derned things.

Ain’t that the truth. Even when I see the crazy old man hairs sticking out of my ears I can’t get at them well enough to completely eliminate them. And there are always one or two growing out of the back of my ears that I don’t notice until they need to be combed. I ask the person cutting my hair to clean me up but they don’t do a very good job either.

And the weird horse hairs that grow out of my eyebrows now! Those things can grow up to three inches a day it seems.

I look for it regularly and pluck it when it appears. Coming from the inside or growing around the edges, I pluck.

I pluck my husband’s. He usually has 2 or 3 hairs that grow out of each ear. And while I’m at it I pluck the long, crazy eyebrow hairs he gets every couple of months, then just generally clean up his eyebrows.

It’s a turn off.

Those things are just nuts.

Many years ago a girlfriend asked me repeatedly to trim my eyebrows. I don’t know where that came from, as looked perfectly normal to me. It’s not like I looked like Andy Rooney or Thufir Hawat. She clearly had some issiue with me that she wasn’t discussing.

So one day I decided to prove her wrong by trimming them. I knew she’d never be able to tell the difference. Ha! I’ll show her! I trimmed them and didn’t see a bit of difference.

The next time she saw me – from across the room, mind you – she said “You trimmed your eyebrows! Yay!”

That’s now just another part of my grooming routine.
