Earliest Examples of Mumblecore Movies?

Mumblecore movies? Not a clue.

Mumblecore character? The Original.

While I see titles on Mumblecore lists that go back as far as the 70’s, this article (with a nice postscript to MumbleGore!) contends that Mumblecore started as an American DIY thing around the early 2000s. I remember back then seeing an almost uncomfortably intense, digitally shot confection called “Too Much Flesh” that I’m pretty sure fits at least the more “modern”(?) definition of Mumblecore.

FWIW, a ‘Top 10’ list of Mumblecore flicks that appear to be only within last 15 years or so.

Mumblecore has navel gazing 20 and 30 year olds mumbling about their relationships. Defining what a mumblecore movie is becomes difficult because it’s mostly a pejorative and many of the directors that are considered mumblecore reject the term.
