Also the proper motion of the stars concerned would cause relativistic effects (relatively minor effects, but significant enough to ensure that you could never synchronise the clocks in both solar systems with complete accuracy).
It’s not that murder was impossible on all of the Spacer worlds. It was just considered not possible on Solaria because Solarians do not meet each other in person. They do what they call viewing (3D or holographic television). The only exceptions are for children up to a certain age, and for spouses when required to propagate the Solarian humans. That, though, changed in the later additions to the Robot stories.
What did they do, adopt IVF?
Housekeeping: I decided to add an option to show either GST or user’s local time on Earth, plus a couple of other changes. I used up my free credits for the month, so I’m going to have to wait a bit to fix the muck up that followed in the web display on computers. It’s still okay on my Android cellphone. While I’m waiting for the new allotment of free user credits, I plan on deciding on time zones for Solaria. This should not be that difficult given the information about the planet itself in the novel.
SPOILER BELOW!
They genetically modified themselves to be hermaphrodites (I think that’s the correct term for this situation) so each Solarian created a younger clone essentially.
Interesting strategy.
I suppose a hermaphrodite would be capable of producing a clone by parthenogenesis, and also capable of normal sexual reproduction, if the opportunity arose.
