I just thought it was amusing that they at least own up to the fact that they barely did any research… [TV Quake Film Has Experts Shaking - Heads](http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/04/12/quake.miniseries.ap/index.html)

> An upcoming TV miniseries about an impossibly large earthquake that strikes the West Coast has left seismic experts shaking their heads at what they called gross inaccuracies

And then

> Asked whether he consulted scientists in developing the project, Braunstein said: “Not really. We went on the Internet for backup research.”

I’ll bet they didn’t come here.

I’m not sure the reporter of that story did his research either. The Northridge earthquake killed fewer than 72 people.

How fitting is that? Just verified that the death toll was 57.

_Sigh_ Does NO one do research anymore?

Besides Dopers, I mean.

And, just to be fair, the [other Earthquake movie](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071455/combined) wasn’t exactly a paragon of well-researched cinematography either. (Although it did have the distinction of being presented in SENSURROUND.)

Anyone know if “Sensurround” is any different from run-of-the-mill quadrophonic sound?

[A bit, apparently.](http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/spec/belknap/exhibit2002/sense.htm)
Cracking ribs indeed.

They forgot to mention that _Battlestar Galactica_’s theatrical release was also in Sensurround.

Yeah, man!

I remember that when Carillon exploded my thirteen-year-old balls vibrated. It was GREAT.

Incidentally, I got to see a Sensurround screening of _Earthquake_ as a kid. There were these enormous subwoofer speakers set up right below the screen. When it came time for the earthquake to happen in the movie, they pumped out huge volumes of infrasonic and low-end bass sound so that this was all you could hear.

The vibrations were strong enough to cause the theater seats that me and my brother were sitting in to quiver. It’s like getting a front-row seat to a Saturn V rocket launch.

So how come they’re not still marketing Sensurround as a sex toy?
