Eat my ass, I was here first and you didn't ask nicely

First It’s a micorsecond and then a second. Uh huh.

And then you admit that since you where not paying attention, that you would block traffic and make them wait through the entire cycle.

You showed them didn’t you.

It’s very, very important to continue to be diligent and aware, even when you are stopped at a light.

People tend to make their phone calls at lights. I don’t care. But if they can’t also pay attention to traffic, they shouldn’t be making those calls.

I may beep and wake up an inattentive driver once a year. I usually give them at least 3 or 4 seconds. The car in front of them, at that point is completely through the intersection.

All gas stations are different, but they usually have a similar layout. It’s not hard to realize that the best for everyone, is to pull up to the last/farthest pump available. This makes it safer for everyone.

Remember there are new drivers out there on the road that do stuff like this all the time due to lack of experience. Add to that the fact that anyone over 18 can get a license with ZERO formal training by simply passing a stupidly easy test…

WHERE DID I SAY I WASNT PAYING ATTENTION , much less admit it ?

If you honk because I WASNT looking at the light, well fine (sorta).

But, again, if I AM WATCHING the light and you cant wait for the SHORT period of time it takes for me to take the foot off the brake and put it on the gas…then you are too damn impatient. And you reading comprehension probably sucks too.

That’s my big problem with drivers these days. Driving safely is hard and it is complicated - it should require intensive training and a comprehensive, difficult test, but it doesn’t.

And then we add on all the people who are driving without a license and no training whatsoever (and I have a feeling the stats on this are far higher than we suspect, based on what I see every day).

Bolding mine.

Yes, fuck them because they where paying attention, and you where not. So you would just sit there blocking traffic. And your words are that you will sit through the whole light cycle blocking trafic.

The considerat thing to do at a gas station is to pull up to the last pump in line. But the OP’s position is “Eat my ass, I was here first”. Shows me that they know very little about how to be a reasonable responsible driver.

So, your interpretation is that I wasnt paying attention because I took more than 1 microsecond and less than 1 second, while** watching **the light?

Well, either horns have lost some of their impact, or else impatience is in the air, water, ultraviolet and infrared in some parts of the urbanized US. Back in Westchester where I used to live, people used their horns more often than their turn signals.

I’ve actually gotten in a fight at a traffic light. Somebody pulled this crap (I didn’t honk for a good 3 seconds) and I got out but the stupid asshole locked his door. I kicked his fucking door in a couple times and he got out and a fight ensued.

I’d do it again too. Fucking people think they can do what they want with no consequences, I’ll give them a consequence. Yeah, somebody might have a gun in their car, but the types of small dicked assholes that do this kind of shit, are the pussies that are probably anti-gun too. Like their righteousness is defense against anything.

And, as Dr Phil might ask, “Hows that working for you” ?

I don’t live in Westchester anymore. I have more space in my head, and less need for it. Life’s a tradeoff that way, sometimes. Always, really.

Fair enough. But that works both ways. If you ACTUALLY waited three seconds and gave a quick toot vs a multisecond continous horn blast, more power to you IMO.

Question is, if you were sitting at a light and someone blasted their horn nearly the instantly the light turned green while you were watching the light turn green would you do the same thing ? Cause IMO its the same thing.

BTW, I am very pro gun in addition to have a big breaker bar laying next to the car seat

Well, I’m not even the most aggressive guy, my main point, other than expressing my distaste for those types of not so-passive aggressive tactics, was that you have to be careful who you are pissing off. They might be gang banger with several 9mm guns in their possession, or they may be a 6’5 300lb UFC champion with a bad temper.

Also, I tend to be a bit smarter than those that carry weapons in their car. Getting into a fistfight can be a few days in a jail cell, hitting somebody too hard with a metal pipe and killing them will be a bit more. But if you feel safe with a weapon feel free to take that risk.

Oh, and I didn’t answer the question. No, I’ve never honked at somebody for <1 second. I always wait at least 3 and then honk once or twice (not holding down either). If the person still didn’t move I might hold down for a couple seconds.

Most of the time, the toots work. I get the finger and they drive off.

A suggestion. Keep it to one toot. You dont think they heard the first one ? Do you really think extra ones are speeding them up ?

And IF it was a scenario where I was even entertaining the notion that it might be ME not paying attention you’d get an “oops, my bad” wave rather than the finger

Oh, good lord, the internet tough guys have come out of the woodwork.

Last week some asshole started honking when we were all stuck waiting for a train. It’s not like he couldn’t tell, either - the giant train stopped in front of us is a big giveaway. What did he think I was going to do about that one?

Damn, do I have spell it out for you ?

He was saying “Please, oh please, someone come back here and kick me in the nuts for being the biggest dumbass on the planet”

S and M people drive cars too you know

If step #1 in your “exercise care” approach is getting out of your car at an intersection and kicking another driver’s door until a physical confrontation takes place, I’m eager to hear the rest of the program.

It isn’t step 1, it goes as follows:

1.) Have nothing to live for and hate life. (depression, single, etc)
2.) Be 20 years old (this was 12+ years ago)
3.) Be fit, strong and young (see above) and think that 8 years of martial arts makes you invincible
4.) Be behind a person that is deliberately not driving forward because you honked (they were getting something on the floor of their car, honking wasn’t to express anger, but to let them know the light was green).

Nowhere in there was there “exercising care.” A bit more than 12 years later, I exercise care.

Would I actually do it again? Not in the same manner, probably not. Back then I went in swinging and shouting, now I would tell the guy to drive forward or I would call the cops. Also, normal people (Even aggressive youngsters) don’t always escalate violence from fistfight to “Beat you on the head with a metal pipe” (back then I would have been able to take it from some people)

My interpretation is that if this happens to you regularly, that you would then sit at the light and block the intersection suggests that you have power trip issues. Good luck in court with that defense.

Look. I don’t want to start a fight. I do think that people do not pay enough attention when they are driving. I really, really doubt that you get honked at because of a one second lapse. Perhaps you do.

I suspect though, that you are simply not paying enough attention and it is much longer than a micro second or second.

That you said that you will just sit there and block the intersection speaks volumes.

Now… It isn’t proper to honk at someone to move up at a gas station. Not knowing the layout of that station precludes any real response from me. BUT the OP is acting entitled and from what I can tell, doesn’t understand the basic procedure to get fuel.

Is English your first language or your second ? Because, seriously, you have reading comprehension issues.

If you’ve read that I am sitting at intersections all the time…you can’t read IMO.
