# eBayers: To dye or not to dye

I am interested in non-eBayers’ opinions, too, by the way.
My partner and I am parting out a classic car that is a popular model with a less-than-desirable interior color, and we are selling the parts on eBay. (This has been a most educational experience for me, since my sole interest in my own car is keeping it running until the wheels fall off. I am amazed by the parts we’ve auctioned that have triggered bidding wars.)
So…the interior is dark blue, by no means ugly, but probably not a whole lot of cars out there with this interior color. My inclination is to dye what we can black, because I know black interior parts for this model will sell. Dye is a small investment that I think will more than pay for itself in higher prices for the black pieces.
My partner’s opinion is sell them as-is. The buyer can dye them if s/he wants to. Perhaps someone is restoring a car with a dark blue interior, and now we have a market for a rare item.
So, two questions:
Would you dye or sell the less-than-desirable color as is?
And if you dye, is that something that should be mentioned in the description? I mean, black is black. (I want my baby back. Sorry, couldn’t restrain myself.)

I’d leave it blue and mention on the page “these vintage seats can be dyed.”

I would sell as is. What if it didn’t dye well? Then you’d just have ruined, worthless junk.

Don’t dye.
Lots of folks who restore are very concerned about authenticity - and they can tell if things have been dyed.

It’s funny how less-than-desirable can turn into rare-and-highly-sought-after in the blink of an eye. I would sell the car as is.
