EBay's mystery inheritance: legit?

More of the same crap. Someone posts a “crazy” eBay auction and the media laps it up. Of course, the auction is likely bogus (in the sense that the underlying “inheritance” is not worth anything like a verifiable/liquid $1.3 million, and/or in the sense that it might be pulled before completion), and is very likely ancillary to her desire to get lots of media attention (scroll down the page – the dumbass media is of course slavishly cooperating). The hundreds of bids are mostly or all fake, and no one is going to pay a six figure sum for a pig in a poke (don’t hold your breath for the media to note the phenomenon of shill or sock-puppet bidding when they frantically announce what the “inheritance” “is selling for”).

There are so many things about the “auction” that just don’t ring true.

But, like SaveKaryn, as long as jackasses continue to give her validation and attention, she (assuming there is a “she” and this is not the construct/gag of some hairy palmed webgeek dude) and imitators will continue to do this sort of crap.

Nothing to see here. Move along. DNFTAWs.

Aren’t all these zany auctions always won by some Casino or other? I imagine that in most cases, the bids all along the way are just jokes or shills. Eventually this stupid casino comes in with a snipe bid that trumps them all. WOW!

Have a look at the (current) high bidder. mydawgpatton (88 feedback) – bid: $200,100.000

Looking at feedback and history, the vast majority of this dude(ette)'s action has been selling

Must be a lucrative business, eh? Totally sounds like someone who could pony up $200,000 for a bid for a mystery auction on eBay. Somehow I doubt that this person could even qualify for a bank loan of that amount.

The fact of the matter is that eBay harps on and on about how “your bid is a legal contract” and “your bid is binding”. But really it isn’t. Renegging on a bid has minor, if any, consequences.

I vote publicity stunt. Can’t be a scam, no-one is really going to hand over that much money without seeing the goods, are they? No-one that stupid has that much money, surely. :dubious:

But, yeah, the auction itself is riddled with stuff that just screams BS. I can’t believe anyone is seriously bidding on it, and the bidding pattern itself reeks of shill bidding. Publicity will be all that this auction gathers.

It’s been removed.

Bummer. Sure would like to have seen what it was all about.

I think the fact that it’s been removed suggests “what it was all about”.

I think the hokey pokey was what it was all about.

My right foot categorically denies any involvement in such a scam.

You’re right foot better fess up or I am going to shake him all around!

Fine, fine, but for christssakes, stop turning him all about!
