While i think the level of hysteria about ebola is ridiculous, as a general principle i would be far more worried about getting ebola than getting SARS. The death rate from ebola is around 50 percent, while the death rate from SARS was below 10 percent. And the number of confirmed worldwide cases of SARS was lower than the number of confirmed ebola cases in the current outbreak. In the case of SARS, also, the most serious risk by far was for people in the usual problem groups for flu and pneumonia (infants, the elderly, people with respiratory problems), while ebola seems able to strike down and kill even strong, healthy adults. ---
