I just got back from the observatory, where I saw the best view of the moon I have ever seen through a telescope. The problem with full moons is that they are too bright to see through a telescope… unless there’s an eclipse, which there just happened to be. The skies were clear, the countryside was dark, prime viewing conditions all 'round. I’m going to go out and look at it some more now. * * * An infinite number of rednecks in an infinite number of pickup trucks shooting an infinite number of shotguns at an infinite number of road signs will eventually produce all the world’s great works of literature in Braille. ---

what makes them too bright? couldn’t you add a neutral density filter to the telescope or something? * * * _what is essential is invisible to the eye -the fox_ ---

Well, it’s long over now. The next one, the longest and last of the 20th Century, is in July. In the western hemisphere, the partial phase of the eclipse will be visible in Alaska, Pacific Time Canada & US, Mexico, and southern South America. By the time totality begins, only SW Alaska will be able to see it.
