One of the funniest scenes in the movie is when Cruise rolls out into the path of the truck and gets smushed under its wheels and Paxton has this reaction shot that just had me rolling.
What the hell were you thinking???
Cinema Sins does Everything Wrong With Edge of Tomorrow.
I just watched the movie last night for the first time and I have to say that I enjoyed it. I’m not a Cruise fan but I thought he was good in the part.
The thought that was running through my mind was, ‘Evil Nazi Groundhog day’.
Bumping this thread because I just watched it last night, and the theory that many have been talking about in this thread, about there being three days, is incorrect.
There are only two days.
Day 1, he lands in a helicopter at dawn, talks to the general, gets tazed.
Later in Day 1, he wakes up after tazing as a maggot.
Day 2, the invasion.
When he and Blunt go to the general to get the leg-stabbing gizmo, the general mentions that he was there that same morning.
I also really like Zyanthia’s friend’s suggested ending.
I liked the film but felt the attack on Paris was a bit crap and the ending just made no sense at all. I’ve seen the film referred to as “Groundhog D-Day” by wags.
Another thing that I found a bit strange was, when Cage is out of the loop and has to convince J Company to accompany him in battle, he does so by telling them all about themselves. Are we to suppose there are countless loops where he just spent the day getting to know all of them and their stories, and if so, to what avail?
Having just seen it, there are plenty of scenes where Cage alludes to countless iterations trying to do or learn certain things. Training, surviving the beach landing, getting to the farmhouse, flying a helicopter, trying to save Rita, his “fight” with his squadmates, meeting with the General, so on and so forth.
What’s nice about the movie is that it doesn’t take itself all that seriously. Compared to say, Oblivion, which was pretty bleak.
That is its major strength. It revels in its ludicrousness.
Chiming in because I swear we put this thread to rest yesterday, but I woke up this morning, and there it was again, as if I had never read it.
I liked the movie ending because I read All You Need Is Kill and the original ending, while emotionally moving, contains a lot less happiness:
The Full Metal Bitch attacks Keiji, who is surprised that it looks like she’s trying to kill him - which she is. Since they are both “antennae” in the Mimics’ time loop network, one of them has to die, or the Mimics will use them (instead of their own antennae) to reset the day again.
Keiji regretfully kills her. He’s doomed to be court-martialed for killing the most popular soldier in the world, but the brass takes advantage of his amazing combat record and make him the new face of the war effort… and the battle rages on!
