Effect of Occupy Wall Street on the 2012 elections?

At least until the first cold snap or the Next Big News Story[sup]TM[/sup] hits. I haven’t heard much about the Tea Party lately.

Nevertheless, the Tea Party has proven to be a movement with some staying power, has it not?

No, it has faded away pretty much. That ,even though they have huge monied people in back of them.
But this movement is difficult for a serious person to disparage. There is no leader gaining power or money from it. There is no organization getting control.
Hopefully the Dems understand the dissatisfaction of the people. The rich have great access to politicians . After awhile the pols think that is the mood of the land. But now they are seeing the people are behind change. If they can be convinced that the votes will follow , then perhaps they will start doing the business of the people again.
The occupation does not have Fox pushing them. It does not have a group of right wing talking heads exaggerating the size of the baggers parades or their importance.
It is a real grass roots organization.
The Detroit movement is taking a petition to the Bank of America office, downtown, demanding a foreclosure moratorium.

Well, one group who I have great sympathy for are the college students protesting the lack of jobs. Most of them have racked up student loan debts in the five- or six- figure range, after having been told their entire lives that they must must MUST go to college, and now they are graduating to find nothing waiting for them, and that even if they do find jobs, they’ll probably never make as much money as their parents did. Plus, student loan debts are impossible to escape from. That right there is a very legitimate grievance, altho as others have mentioned they should be protesting in Washington, not New York.

No, no, all the important decisions were made in New York. In any case, what they’re doing – what all the OWSers are doing – is protesting the flaws, crimes and failures of modern capitalism. Socialists belong in that.

Hell, Ron Paul followers recognize that problem. But like I wrote before, even LaRouche followers have a spot . They too recognize the dangers of unfettered capitalism. But they don’t seem to act nice around the others. There are Gulf War vets downtown too.
There was a push to walk down from Grand Circus Park to the Citi- bank . they were going to present a petition for them to end Detroit foreclosures. Foreclosures are devastating the city.
Lots of people know that the bankers caused the financial crash because of incredible greed. Lets get some retribution. Jail time for the con men.

Yeah, because having Ron Paul and L.LaRouche on your side, along with the, er, other diverse groups I’ve seen in evidence is definitely the stuff to make for a strong, cohesive and coherent political movement! These folks all meld and a Vulcan on steroids! :stuck_out_tongue:

They are similar in that they see the impact of unregulated capitalism. The bankers blew the economy up and walked away rich. They see that as wrong.
You do not have to be Dem or Repub to have a viewpoint that is valid. The Green Party has some excellent views too. The Libertarians are on board with most of the occupiers views.
I suppose I should demonize anyone not mainstream. But I would rather keep my disgust on the financial thieves.

We could put them in jail for what they do. But instead we fine them a fraction of what they steal and pretend that that will make them behave better in the future.
