This isn’t a rant, so, no this doesn’t count towards your Pit total, **DrMatrix** , but I’m curious why [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=185407) is allowed to remain open, while [this one](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=185418) was closed. The closed thread was simply seeking information on the THC content of marijuana stems, while the open thread is asking about the open use of marijuana, which is still illegal in the US, where the SDMB is located. If anything, I think the wrong thread was closed. ---

The first was discussing smoking marijuana in Canada, where it is now/will soon be legal, and the second was discussing smoking it in the US, where it is not legal. One assumes that the mods would close a thread if a bunch of Canuckians wanted to start talking about using pepper spray on people… ---

I disagree. The article linked to in that thread states that _possession_ is no longer against the law, but it says nothing of use. They may very well be able to arrest you for using it in public, the same way they can arrest you here for drinking alcohol in public, although alcohol itslef is perfectly legal. ---

In the first thread, one person wanted to know the consequences of smoking pot under the applicable law in that location. I wouldn’t call that giving instructions as that fact naturally follows from the information given. If you tell me that Pill X contains half the active ingredient of Pill Y, telling me to take two of Pill X to have the same effect as one of Pill Y is not imparting any new information, merely restating it. ---

The mods closed the thread, so I have not choice but to listen. As I said in the OP here, this is _not_ a rant, complaint or argument, just a question. It is in the Pit because that is where such questions are to be asked. ---
