My Mom’s first name is Myrtle, but she goes by either her middle name or nickname. I had a student named Agnes in the last 10-15 years; she’s probably college age now.

Beazel Neck:

A crabby, demanding old woman with a wrinkly tuft of skin on her throat area that waddles while she’s bitching or snapping at someone.

In Poland, Agnieszka (Agnes) is pretty common still, but most of the Agnieszkas I know on this side of the pond go by an Americanization of their middle name instead for precisely this reason.

Re-watching _“Despicable Me”_ the other day, I was struck by the old-ladyishness of the names of the girls: Margo, Edith, and Agnes.

Somehow the movie wouldn’t have been as funny if they were Jennifer, Ashley and Kristen.

Absolutely!

The old ladies are called biddies. Middle age ones are called bitches.

> An Elderkaren is called a boomer.

I think the term is “HOA member”.
