People who didn’t have a problem with it in 2016 (when the article’s from) most likely haven’t had a problem with it since.

Whatever the reason, it seems unlikely Louisiana’s not certifying in order to attempt to get Trump more votes, as he’s got theirs in any case.

One possibility that occurs to me now is that, if Republicans begin coordinating, they could begin refusing to certify results across a number of states and then attempt to sow enough chaos and confusion to contest the election. How that process would actually play out, I don’t know - it probably takes some background in the constitutional/election law process. But even if “the plan” doesn’t succeed procedurally, they could really and truly end up making such a spectacular mess of the whole transition process that it casts doubt on Biden’s legitimacy. It’s really scorched earth politics of a magnitude that is reminiscent of 1850s and 1860s America.

Without question, we’re approaching the most serious political crisis this country will have seen in generations. My fears are playing out: the rank and file Republicans, and its leadership, have created a monster. They’re now afraid to take on Trump because they know that their voters are _his_ voters first - they are his army, not theirs.

You can write all the constitutions you want, but what holds up the rule of law and democracy is general agreement amongst the people that it should be held up. A consensus that “we may have our differences, but these are the core values and rules we agree on” is the REAL constitution of a nation.

I don’t think the USA has that anymore. A slim majority isn’t a consensus.

Any news on if this is being televised, or even what landscaping company it’s being held at? I’m flipping through the major networks and not seeing anything. Our local Fox affiliate is showing Wendy Williams right now.

Very true. The last sentence about the general state of the USA is perhaps arguable, but the last four years of Trump have definitely done a great deal to undermine basic American values and order. But the first part is absolutely true, and it applies not only to politics, but to societal order in general. Business and commerce, too, fundamentally depends on deals being made in good faith, on basic honesty, and on contracts being respected. The judicial system can deal with occasional transgressors, but if everybody acted like Trump, the whole system would fall apart. A constitution is worthless if powerful players choose to ignore it or game it for their own interests.

Delaying certification in Arizona would also delay Kelly replacing McSally in the Senate. Makes shenanigans like confirming the loony tunes Fed board member easier.

Rudy is rehashing all the claims regarding ballot curing and provisional ballots and ballot counting observation and Democratic fraud. Now he’s talking about his favorite movie ‘My Cousin Vinnie.’

Let’s be clear about this: if the Trump and the GOP were to succeed in these maneuvers, the US would likely descend into armed conflict within 5 years.

Worst case: there wouldn’t even be a time when Trump and his allies didn’t insist he was the POTUS and the armed conflict would begin at 12:01pm on 20 January 2021.

I believe it’s at the Hyatt Regency Total Fertilizer Company, on the picturesque grounds of a bull pasture where Rudy – once again surprised by the venue – is nevertheless currently bloviating, much to the annoyance of the bulls.
