In [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=347563) Matt does a little bit of self-promotion and educates us a bit on Canadian politics. Does the SDMB have a policy on electioneering **by candidates**? Or is it simply up to them to ensure they’ve obeyed the local election rules? ---

We’ve usually allowed some self-promotion by members, especially if related to their art, writing, etc. They should get permission in advance, of course, if there’s money involved. I don’t know that a member-candidate has ever come up before, but I’d say this one is related to performance (i.e., acting) and so is not unreasonable. ---

I seem to recall that Matt was an NDP candidate several years ago. Maybe it’s a Canadian thing. ---
