Electrical wiring and power use - Domestic

Yes indeedy! 7cents don’t sound like a lot but here it’s almost the price of a beer and that’s important and with the couple of cents I can save here and there I’ll soon have an extra months rent, 7000 cents. Imagine if everyone were to save a few cents a year on electricity what that would do for environment.
I was actually more interested in practical information and the views of others. I realize the saving of electricity would be very small but still an interesting subject.
butler1850 I can see my meter and the wire from there to my apartment, there is no one tapping into it. Of course the meter is one that the landlord put in, same for all the apartments, so I would guess he has “tweaked” it. :frowning:
Well thanks to you all for your input, If my anything exciting happens to the electricity before my guest status ends I will let you know.

Shouldn’t God start with a capital?.

Look at your meter and others that you can find. There should be a seal on the closure of the mechanism. If other meters have such a seal and if yours has been disturbed, request that a new meter be installed.

I refuse to bow to our deity overlords.

I’d still try the “power off” test. If you share any common walls, you never know what’s going on behind the walls. If it was all built at the same time, you could have a line heading towards the kitchen, that heads to the neighbors refrigerator.

Absolutely, not a bad idea.
I’ve actually done this before. A customer of mine who lived in an eight family unit thought her electric bills were way too high. So we pulled the meter for her unit and the common hallway lights all went out. She had been paying for the common public lighting for years.
The circuits for the lighting were tapped off of the line side of her main and sent to another subpanel where they were fused, so turning off the main breaker in her panel did NOT turn off the lights in the halls, we had to pull the meter to accomplish this.

There is no one tapping into my meter. The meter is just outside my door and the wire goes through a hole in the wall then runs a couple of feet to my distribution board. As I mentioned earlier all the wiring is on the surface and the walls are single wall construction, not double like in most non tropical countries so there is definitely no one tapping into my meter.
As for checking the seal on the meter forget it. This is the land of pirate, copies call it what you will, so replicating a meter seal no problem.
Guess I just have to live with it. :frowning:

Anyone need a new fake driving license or student’s card?
