Electricians- what would happen if...

Well, there’s no way I can stop you but I think you’ve realized that you need to kick your awareness up a few notches.

I’ve had power system relay journeymen who have worked for me in the past and I mentioned to one of them that some of his actions seemed redundant (he turned off a breaker, went to check the circuit and then returned once again to verify that the circuit was turned off. He also tagged and labeled the breaker with a “Do not Touch” tag even though he and I were the only ones within 20 miles of the work site and I was forbidden by union rules to touch any switch or breaker)

His response,“Redundancy can take a little more time. A mistake can take your life. Make no assumptions.”

Using black and white wires to wire up a 220 circuit and not marking the ends of all of the wires involved with red tape was not code compliant.

Since we don’t know the details about any of your other work, the best we can say at this point is you haven’t made any other mistakes that you are aware of. Just because the inspectors didn’t catch any mistakes doesn’t mean there weren’t any. After all, the inspector missed your wire color errors on the heater circuit.
