So I’m trying to educate myself about electronica/industrial/dance music. I just got the Chemical Brothers’ _Singles 1993-2003_ and Crystal Method’s _Legion of Boom_. The Crystal Method seems to have a fatter bottom end, richer tones throughout. The arrangements may be just a tad richer as well. The other artists I’ve listened to in that broad genre are Propellerheads, Chemlab, NIN, Moby, Tabla Beat Science, and a little bit of 808 State.

I’d appreciate insight from any/everyone on the bands I’ve mentioned and recommendations for things you think I’d like, based on what I’ve listed above.

thanks

My taste in music is VERY wide-ranging, and covers several of the artists you mention. I started listening to the Chemical Brothers when their video for _Setting Sun_ was on MTV’s Amp many years ago. I would suggest their album _Brothers Gonna Work It Out_ too. I also like the Crystal Method, NIN, Moby, and what little I’ve heard of the Propellerheads. Based on those, I would also suggest you might also like these: Fluke, Filter, Faithless, Prodigy, Curve, and maybe even Boards of Canada (VERY different from the others, but still fits to some degree). If I think of others, I’ll throw them in. Also, if your tastes include trance and down beat kind of stuff, I can offer a few suggestions there too.

I’m primarily into the synthpop and EBM sounds, so here are some suggestions for those types of bands…

[Iris](http://www.irismusic.com) - this is what modern synthpop should be. Their last album was perfect.

[VNV Nation](http://www.vnvnation.com) - Excellent lyrics and one of my favorite bands.

[Mesh](http://www.mesh.co.uk) - Stay away if you don’t like Depeche Mode.

I also suggest you look into Apoptygma Berzerk, Assemblage 23, Icon of Coil, Hate Dept., Covenant, Echo Image, Recoil, BT, Haujobb. I’d give you links for those, but I don’t have them off-hand, and I’m far to lazy to look them up now.

Fatboy Slim’s “Better Living Through Chemistry” is quite good, also his album “You’ve Come a Long Way Baby”. I also like the group The Art of Noise, especially their albums “The Drum and Bass Collection” and “The Best of The Art of Noise”. Gus Gus’ “Polydistortion” is good too. Look for compilations too, that way you can “sample” more varied artistic stylings. You can listen to a few of the songs on these albums on these links.
