Elementary school music

We had music sessions in the 4th grade, as I recall. We learned the do-re-mi scale, sang rounds songs (row your boat) and others. I’ve always had an excellent ear and was always asked to sing the opening note prior to starting. In 6th grade interested kids could sign up for band, which I did (drums).

Yes…but you still have a functional bucket that is easily repaired. I think the song is from an era and economic place where where “just get a new bucket” isn’t necessarily an option. “Get a new bucket you poors!” …no.

Best version of the song is Odetta and Harry Belafonte.

My kindergarten teacher played the autoharp for us. That was the last time I saw one until I watched the movie A Mighty Wind, in which Mickey played one.

Haven’t seen one since.

I’m guessing we had an autoharp in 2nd or 3rd grade. We got to take turns playing it.

The last one I saw was last Summer. Someone put it on a ‘Free’ pile on the corner. Someone got it.
