That’s the great thing about being an elitist. You can like (relatively) terrible/popular things, as long as you’re aware that they’re terrible/popular. It’s only a problem when people think that those things are the epitome of the whateverness.

So, for example, I have no qualms about listening to both “Single Ladies” by Beyonce \*\*\*and \*\*\*“Test Anxiety” by Toenut.

I spent a semester there in college. I’m back in Milwaukee now, though, so that probably cancels it out for you.

Double Amen.
I love me some pizza and when I hear someone say “hey, let’s order some pizza” I’m the first to jump up and yell yipee!
But my dreams can be crushed just as quickly when they say they are getting it from one of those 3 places.
“Really? Pizzahut is the best you could come up with? No thanks, I think I’ll be having this cup of water and some cheerios thanks.”

> What’s really embarrassing is that I’m such an elitist I don’t even watch anymore. I guess a lot of the fun for me was the thrill of the hunt, the excitement of opening up a Priority Mail box to find stuff I just ordered because the name sounded interesting - god, our Hana Yori Dongo tapes actually had time codes and commercials in them. It just isn’t fun at all anymore, and I haven’t watched anything for years.

I want to see Legend of the Galactic Heroes, but at 720p, that’s 100 gigs of data. Fuck that, I want someone to license it so I can just order it and get DVDs. I don’t want to spend how many hours torrenting it, then burning it to DVD, not to mention the fact I’d have to buy an external hard drive to store it.

So yeah, I hate watching anime on a computer. Anime was meant to be played on a TV screen [strike]so i can shimmy up to the screen to kiss Allen Schezar[/strike].

You’re not that much younger than me - DBZ on TV was the first source of anime for a lot of people in our age group.

Personally, I’m still waiting to run into someone who sees Char Aznable and calls him a ripoff of Zechs Merquise. Well, nowadays they’d be calling him a ripoff of Graham Aker, but you know…

Video games. I exercise great patience with those who suck or don’t know any better yet and go to great lengths to help them get up to speed, but if I’m playing with a group of people that want to play a little more seriously, then get out of the party.

Hot dogs. The difference between a good hot dog and a bad one is huge. Nathan’s or Hebrew National are the only national brands that are any good and only cost a couple dollars more. There is no other food product where spending less than three more dollars for a package gives you so much superior a product. That non-poor people willingly consume bad hot dogs mystifies me.
Books- I was into Somerset Maugham in college and the device he had in his books for identifying stupid characters is for them to read detective novels. Now, I can’t help looking down at people who read detective novels. My feelings for Ashenden fans are complicated.

Series version or movie version? I’d go with the movie version, personally. (Side note: [\*\*\*\*del][/\*\*\*\*del] tags actually work for strikethru here.)

While you’re at it, go ahead and tell us which brands of pickled eggs, potted meat, and canned corned beef hash are just, like, the only ones worth buying.

I have to admit that in my travels, the only city I’ve been to that had the same manic energy of the people on the streets that NYC has is Tokyo.

I was in college for most of the EQ heyday, so it actually wasn’t _that_ bad. Could I do it now that I have a ‘real’ job? Of course not, some of the things we did were insane (aforementioned Ragefire camps for cleric epics pretty much at the top of the list, but by no means alone on it). Did it still ruin WoW for me because everything is just handed to you on a damn silver platter? Of course. 😃

I agree – as much as I like New York, I think the hype is overblown.

24 hour metro sure is nice though – in Tokyo you’re looking at a horribly expensive taxi ride.

Nah, in Tokyo you either get home by the last train or stay out all night. That’s what we did, anyway. Which isn’t to say I wouldn’t have been happier if the trains and subways were running 24 hours, but events were pretty much structured around the limitations of the system. (E.g., a friend’s band would be playing at a show where the opening band wouldn’t start until something like 10 or 11 p.m., and then the thing would run through 5 or 6 a.m., maybe later.)

Series version. I’ll admit it, I love my bishounen stereotype, and the animation style of the TV series gave him that in spades.

Fonts.

Any font installed by Microsoft Office (Arial, Verdana, Comic Sans, etc.) shall never be used in any design work. Neither any of the “knockoff” fonts that are mere tracings of the genuine original (_“Baskerline”_ instead of **Baskerville** , _“Alphavers”_ instead of **Univers** , _“Clarion”_ instead of **Clarendon** , etc.) Oh… and fucking _[Papyrus!](http://www.papyruswatch.com/)_ It’s sad that a well-designed face can be undone by a combination of distinctiveness and omnipresent usage.

I’ll admit, it’s been much longer since I watched the series than since I watched the movie, so the latter’s Allen is much stronger in my mind. I might have to re-watch it again sometime soon… you know… _for science_.

Whoa, and I can get the complete series on Amazon for only $30. Time to replace the shitty Chinese bootlegs I bought over a decade ago! (Not that I didn’t love subtitles that were often completely mis-timed.) Argh, dammit, and now all the suggestions that are popping up are making me want to get into anime again.
