# Elvis famous hit, Can't Help Falling in Love, is from a movie? Really? Wise Men Say, Only Fools Rush In Pure quintessential Elvis. It’s his biggest and most famous hit. Imho It’s right up there with his Arthur Crudup cover of That’s All Right Mamna and Big Mama Thornton’s Hound Dog. A friend insists it’s from one of his corny movies? He may have used it in a movie, but I’m convinced it was huge hit single long before Elvis went Hollywood. Help me set this friend straight. ---

Well, I’m shocked. I always associated Can’t Help Falling in Love with the cool Elvis before he sold out. Wow. Something good actually came from one of his B movies? Can’t Help Falling in Love is performed at thousands and thousands of weddings. A wonderful and inspired song. It’s often done instrumental with piano. You can almost hear Elvis’ voice ring out. 1961, that’s still fairly early Elvis before he took his act to Vegas. He was transitioning from Rock A Billy to Longue Singer. ---

Elvis was like Samson. Once they cut his hair, it was pretty much over. 😉 Cool Elvis was incredible. That snarl and those hips. It shook fifties America to its core. The women were going absolutely crazy over Elvis. ---

Plaisir d’ Amour is what the song is based on, which is a song from the 1700’s. It was the music used in the 1949 movie, ‘The Heiress’. ---

Elvis reached his artistic peak singing “Old MacDonald had a farm” in 1967’s “Double Trouble”. Almost as good as the 1960 Frank Sinatra version. ---

Presley had been making movies practically since the beginning of his career. ---

Actually it was on steve allens variety show and it was allens idea because he thought it would be funny … elvis wasn’t amused and neither was critics and the audience Allen spent years apologizing for it in various media forums and said it was one of his biggest regrets … ---

Can’t Help almost didn’t make it into the movie. It was considered an odd song that really didn’t fit into the soundtrack. ---

Mark & Brian, the late-and-lamented morning show in L.A., played a hilarious outtake from Can’t Help. During the bridge, Elvis screws up the “some things are meant to be” line (to be fair, the tempo on that is a little weird) and he cusses, asks them to hold the playback, then says **“Hot damn tamale, how does that go?”** 😃
