# Elwood the Ugly Dog Dead at 8

Elwood, who won the 2007 World’s Ugliest Dog Contest at age two, has died of unknown causes after a brief illness. Poor little guy. His tongue hung out like that because he was missing all his teeth on the left side of his mouth. RIP, little buddy.

As ugly as he was, I could have come up with uglier entries. There are some really pathetic street dogs in Bangkok. I was told they’re even worse in Indonesia, but then I went to Indonesia and found that was not true at all. Bangkok wins, hands down. This one poor guy was like a walking cancer tumor. His memory still haunts me years later. Made Elwood look like a champion pedigree.

He sort of looks like Stripe on _Gremlins_ (1984).

His tongue hanging out is weird, but he looks like a nice dog and it’s hard to think of him as ugly.
