{{{hugs}}} Caileigh Morgan has a wonderful Mommy! It sounds like you made the right choice given the information available to you. I hope the staff at your hospital is a good resource - those can be some really special nurses and doctors. We did the NICU dance with my son & that was an incredibly difficult period. I remember feeling so grateful to live in this time of medical miracles, and yet still so anxious and bewildered by the whole process. Of course now he’s fine & fun & causing trouble. Take excellent care of yourself! You deserve a lot of TLC right now, don’t underestimate your needs! ---

Search for **China Guy** ’s thread on his twins’ birth. He went through a harrowing experience that turned out just fine. I would take the fact that she’s on room air and not a vent as a very good sign. Medical technology has advanced wonderfully. You may remember recently in the news an 8 _ounce_ baby girl that has recently gone home from the hospital. So WhyBaby already has her beat! We’re here and sending good thoughts. Keep your chin up and don’t be afraid to ask questions. ---

Thank you all so much. I just got home from spending the day with Caileigh, and she’s still holding on. The doctor drew some more blood to watch this infection, and says he’s not too concerned with it - it’s a pretty mild bacteria that 75% of premies get through their umbilical IV lines. (This doctor talks in percentages more than words, which makes me smile a bit. I have no idea if he’s making them up or not, but he’s pretty convincing!) I took some pictures of her in her new knitted hat for her one week birthday. Apparently, she has quite a wardrobe of hats, as the vollunteers made them a little small in the last batch and she’s the only one the hats fit! She has the most perfect hands. I don’t know why, but I keep fixating on them. Probably because they’re the only part of her not wired with sensors, IVs or blood pressure cuffs. They’re just perfect, long-fingered, graceful hands, porportioned like a grown-up’s, because there’s no baby fat on them. I took a few pictures of just her hands, and I think I’ll use one of them for her birth announcement - a picture of all of her would just look too scary right now. The nurse said tomorrow we should bring the camera back and take of picture of her wearing her daddy’s wedding ring as a bracelet. That sounds like an awesome picture, and I can’t wait to try it. Thank you all again. You have no idea how much the love and support of the Dopers makes me feel better. ---

I teared up about the wedding ring as a bracelet–what a beautiful image. I was also enchanted by my babies’ hands–maybe b/c they all have my fingers…but they are beautiful, no?
