Eminem: appropriate for kids?

And you were 2 when this thread was last posted in.

I realize this is a zombie thread, but “Due to its content, it should not be viewed by anyone” was the territory of “South Park.”

I think your sister was overstepping herself by disapproving of what you were listening to in the first place, whether her kids were there or not–your house, your rules, for one thing; the world isn’t made for kids and they’re going to see/hear stuff Mama doesn’t approve of in the world anyway, so why censor your tastes, and didn’t you say you were babysitting her little tax deductions for free?

Then there’s the whole matter of the approved-for-kids disk she laid on you. Not only has your relative taken it upon herself to flip off your musical tastes, she then has the nerve to bring you a disc and demand that you play this music, and only this music, for her kids sight-unseen? I’m glad you’re enjoying the mix, it could’ve been much worse, but still, imposing kiddie tunes on grown-ass grownups who are doing her a favor by minding her kids, is really the crust, the brass, the unmitigated gall…

Vile? No. That is a very subjective and biased way to look at those lyrics. Instead of “vile”, try “furious”. Try “heartsick”. Try “enraged and bitter”. It’s very negative because the situation being depicted is negative. The man is expressing his feelings regarding his emotions and experience toward his ex who figures as the necessary antagonist in the dramatic rendition of that experience. It’s poetry, by a certain definition, rendered in the common speech and idiom, and thus entitled to poetic license.
